“Good evening Mr. and Mrs. America from border to border and coast to coast and all the ships at sea. Let’s go to press…
This just in…the breaking news for Saturday, February 13, 1929, Long Beach, California — a city known for its bevy of beach beauties, rugged longshoremen, honest Mr. & Mrs. Joe Citizens, and politicians who are incorruptible! …A shocking story, yes, shocking indeed…”
From the bee’s knees to the cat’s pajamas…
Turn the clock back to 1929 and come celebrate Long Beach Playhouse’s 80th Anniversary at Joey “The Saint” Valentine’s Speakeasy. Don’t miss the swankiest 1929 opening night since the Long Beach Playhouse became the city’s first performing arts organization in February of that year.
Join Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster and LA County Supervisor Don Knabe as they mingle with Gloria Swanson, George Raft and W.C. Fields. You never know what other celebrities will be popping in at the Speakeasy.
