EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
POSITION DESCRIPTION AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Position Description:
This is a fulltime, on-site (no-telecommuting,) exempt / salaried position with benefits. Occasional evening / weekend hours required to ensure smooth operations of Opening Nights, benefit performances and special events.
The Executive Director (ED), under the supervision of the Board of Directors (the Board), is responsible for the overall general management of The Long Beach Community Players, Inc. (the Company). The ED, with the assistance of Board of Directors and assigned committees, shall oversee all business operations, ensure a quality customer / patron experience and manage assigned staff, in order to ensure the artistic and financial viability of the Company.
Salary Range:
$35,000 to 40,000
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial: Determine, manage and present accurate and realistic operating budgets for Board approval, ensure that adequate financial and management controls are in place, and execute the budget. Prepare complete monthly reports for the Board, with explanations and recommended solutions for actual deviations.
- Operations Management: Implement and execute policies & processes regarding the facilities, box office, administrative, and human resources operations of the Company. Provide regular and complete reports to the Board regarding such, including the identification of areas of concern with recommended solutions.
- Human Resources: Actively recruit, train and manage staff and volunteers to build a cohesive team to accomplish the mission of the Company and quality operations.
- Customer Service: In concert with the Artistic Director, Board of Directors, and PR / Marketing Manager, define and assure that all customers / patrons receive quality customer service and staff / volunteer interaction.
Candidate Requirements:
Minimum BA / BS University Degree; preferably with a concentration in Business Management, Organizational Management / Development, or other similar discipline
Background in theater management, preferably in a non-profit community theater setting.
Demonstrate experience in and capacity to lead, manage, motivate, inspire, train and collaborate with staff, Board and volunteers
Strong skills in budgeting, interpreting and presenting monthly and quarterly budget estimates, creating long term budgets and goals, and financial management
Strong preference for Candidates with the following:
Previous Arts management / leadership experience dealing with Board relations, civic engagement and volunteer recruitment / management
Hands-on or supervisory experience in Theatre Box Office / ticketing operations and management
A working knowledge of artistic production including intellectual property rights and contracts
Familiarity and civic ties within the immediate Long Beach community / area
Familiarity with employment / payroll, state and federal tax liabilities to ensure correct bookkeeping / accounting procedures are in place; knowledge of QuickBooks preferred
Experience with preparation (in concert with external accountants) of quarterly and annual business tax liabilities / filings; and also business & facilities operations compliance issues / insurance policies
Self-sufficient with general office administration and computer skills; including but not limited to proficiency in MS Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
