Long Beach Playhouse present The Hollow on the MainStage
Murder Mystery by Agatha Christie
Directed by Neno Pervan
The action of the play passes in the garden room of Sir Henry & Lady Angkatell’s English manor house, The Hollow. Time: 1950s.
Long simmering passions boil over when Dr. John Cristow takes his wife Gerda up to The Hollow for a relaxing weekend in the English countryside. There, at The Hollow, are Henrietta, John’s mistress; bookish Edward, who is in love with Henrietta; mousy Midge, in love with Edward; and, soon enough, a former lover of John’s, as well – the glamorous movie star, Veronica Cray. John Cristow has a dynamic personality, a brilliant mind, and an inordinate amount of very good luck. Gerda, his dim, worshipful wife takes care of the children, while Henrietta, his talented sculptress mistress takes care of him, and everything else in his charmed life takes care of itself quite nicely. But John has a frightening lack of insight into how his actions affect others. It is this tragic ignorance that changes forever the lives of those gathered at The Hollow that weekend. Before Lord & Lady Angkatell’s guests are dressed for Saturday night’s dinner, one of them is dead – shot through the heart…
The Hollow is a thrilling story of love, lust, and madness, with complex, intriguing characters and enough plot-twists to satisfy even the most devout mystery fan.
