Mitchell is honored and thankful to the Long Beach Playhouse for giving him this chance to direct Smoke & Mirrors.  He is absolutely delighted to be working with such an artistically talented cast and crew.  Mitchell was born and raised in Long Beach and started performing on stage in elementary school.  He has worked on more than 150 shows and directed on 25 of them in his 40-year love affair with theatre.  Here at the playhouse he has worked on 46 shows since 1979 and has received 2 Drama-Logue awards, 5 Ethyl Case awards and along with his wife, Jane, the Long Beach Playhouse Lifetime Achievement award.  Some of his recent roles here have been, Stanley in “Caught in the Net”. Freddie in “Picasso at the Lapin Agile”, HC Curry in “The Rainmaker”, Howard in “Picnic”, Arnold in “Send Me No Flowers” and Paulie Pirelli in “Dead Wrong”.  He studied theatre at the “School of Hardknocks”‘ opting to learn by doing.  He received his education by working on-stage, in the shop, backstage, in the tech booth, and in the boardroom.  Primarily an actor, Mitchell has also directed, produced, and designed many, many shows in his career.  He has worked from San Diego to Santa Barbara and from Pasadena to Newport.  Some of his directing credits include: “Cliffhanger” here on the main stage, “Loot” at NTAC, “Corpse!” at GGCT, “Tribute” at the LPR Dinner Theatre, “Ravenscroft” and “Spinelli” at the Bellflower Theater Company.   Mitchell lives in Long Beach with Jane, his wife of 30 years, and their two “kids” – Bob and Darwin.
