The fair Bianca has no shortage of admirers. However, unless her shrewish sister, Katherina, is betrothed, she can entertain none of them. Enter fortune seeking Pertruchio who is convinced by Bianca’s suitors to pursue not only Katherina but her dowry. He marries Katherina and carries her off to his country house. Pertruchio intends to browbeat Katherina into submission and he denies her food, sleep and her new clothes, while continuously singing her praises.
