Through a magical evening of storytelling\, music and dance\,  their community shares the rich history that makes them so much more than slaves.  Sharing this rich oral tradition not only comforts the father and son\, but heals and strengthens the entire community as the audience has the privilege of going along for the ride.  Flight is an inspirational theatrical experience for the whole family as the characters share their empowering stories\, based on actual slave narratives\, as well as African and African-American folktales. \nCASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES: \nOH BEAH (F 40+) – African American. Strong\, earthy and nurturing\, OH BEAH is a middle-aged woman with magical powers.  A healer and midwife\, she’s the matriarch of the enslaved community. Some singing and movement. \nNATE (M 25 – 40) – African American. A field hand and Sadie’s husband.  Nate’s the braes and strongest man on the plantation. Some singing and movement. \nMERCY (F 18 – 30) – African American. Some singing and movement. \nDRUMMER/PERCUSSIONIST (M/F age open) – African American.  A “spirit” who embodies the rhythms of Africa\, rhythms that beat within the hearts of the characters.  Acting as a Greek chorus\, the drummer takes us in and out of the folktales; punctuates the action; comments on characters and events; and highlights special moments \nANCESTRAL SPIRIT (M/F 18 – 30) – African American.  A “spirit” who embodies the spirit of inspiration and hope. Through movement and dance\,  the spirit interprets\, inspires  and highlights special moments
