DESCRIPTION:AUDITION NOTICE:\nTITLE: BLUES FOR AN ALABAMA SKY\nAUTHOR: Pearl Cleage \nDIRECTOR: Sonya Randall \nRUN:  May 20th – June 17th 2023 \nFridays & Saturdays 8pm\, Sundays at 2 pm. Special performances on Thursday and Sunday nights may be added for private parties and special events. \nThis is a volunteer community theater production.  Non-Equity.  There is no pay.  \nAt this time\, all volunteers\, including actors must be fully vaccinated to participate in shows. \nAUDITION DATES:\nOpen Call: \nDates: Monday\, March 27th and Tuesday\, March 28th\, 2023 \nTimes: 7 pm – 9 pm \nLocation: Long Beach Playhouse   \nCallbacks: \nDate and Time: Wednesday\, March 29th\, 2023\, 7 pm – 10 pm\, by invitation only. \nREHEARSALS:\nFirst Read-Through: Saturday\, April 1st\, Noon – 4 pm \nFirst Regular Rehearsal : Monday\, April 3rd\, 2023 \nRegular Rehearsal:  Monday – Thursday 7 pm – 10:30 pm \nSaturday 10:00 am – 3:00 pm (Possible Sunday Night rehearsals maybe added if needed\, 7 pm – 10:30 pm) \n(See Beginning Rehearsal Calendar BELOW for Specific Dates and Times.) \nLocation: Long Beach Playhouse \nAUDITION REQUIREMENTS:\nBring headshot and resume.  \nPrepare a monologue for the Open Call Auditions. \nSides for cold readings will be provided at the Callbacks. \nPlease bring your vaccination card as written proof of full vaccination to the auditions. \nSHORT SYNOPSIS: \nIn the summer of 1930 in Harlem\, NY\, the creative euphoria of the Harlem Renaissance has given way to the harsher realities of the Great Depression. Guy and Angel\, recently fired from the Cotton Club\, struggle to hold on to their dreams; he of costuming Josephine Baker and she of having a steady career as a singer. When Leland\, a recent transplant\, comes to Angel’s aid\, he sees in her a memory of lost love and a reminder of the Alabama skies he misses. Will they find what they are looking for in Harlem\, or will they have to look beyond 125th Street to fulfill their dreams? \nCASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:\nANGEL ALLEN: (F\, 34 – 40. Ethnicity: Black / African Descent) A 34-year-old Black woman who looks five years younger\, a former backup singer at The Cotton Club. \nGUY JACOBS: (M\, 30 – 40. Ethnicity: Black / African Descent) A thirtyish black man\, costume designer at The Cotton Club. \nDELIA PATTERSON: (F\, 25 – 30. Ethnicity: Black / African Descent) A 25-year-old Black woman\, a social worker on staff at Harlem Hospital. \nLELAND CUNNINGHAM: (M\, 28 – 35. Ethnicity: Black / African Descent) A 28-year-old Black man from Alabama\, a six-week resident of Harlem. \nSAM THOMAS: (Male\, 40ish. Ethnicity: Black / African Descent.)
