Due to the age of our building\, there is no elevator and the theater is only accessible by stairs. \nDescription: \n“Nodding Off in Church” unfolds on Easter Sunday in Sherwood\, Arkansas\, as the Johnson family gathers under one roof. Between the morning service and Sunday dinner\, old tensions and quiet grief simmer beneath the surface. Elice Johnson\, the family matriarch\, leans on her faith to hold everyone together\, but her adult children wrestle with doubt\, disappointment\, and what belief means in their own lives. As memories of their late brother Emmanuel linger\, conversations about love\, loss\, and religion push the family to confront the difference between inherited faith and lived experience. \nCompany Statement:\nNodding Off in Church marks the first official production under our company\, and we couldn’t think of a better place to bring it to life than the Long Beach Playhouse. I had the honor of performing here last year in August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson\, an experience I’ll cherish for the rest of my life. To now return as both creator and director is a full-circle moment I’m deeply grateful for. With this company\, our goal is simple: to tell stories that spark conversation. We want to explore the uncomfortable\, the honest\, and the human because those conversations are what we believe bring us closer together. \nThe LBP Studio Collaborative Season offers outside\, local theatre companies and performing arts organizations the opportunity to produce their own shows in our Studio Theater.
