SUMMARY:KIMBERLY AKIMBO
DESCRIPTION:KIMBERLY AKIMBO\nPlaying in the Long Beach Playhouse’s Studio Theater\nJune 6 – July 3\, 2026\nBy David Lindsay-Abaire\nDirected by Michael Hovance\nIn this zany\, warmhearted comedy play that inspired the recent Tony Award winning musical\, Kimberly is a lonely 16-year-old girl suffering from a disease that causes her to age at more than four times the normal rate. Feeling trapped inside the frail physical body of an elderly woman\, Kim meets Jeff\, another young misfit at school\, and an uncertain relationship develops between them. Soon her life goes “akimbo\,” contending with a hypochondriac mother\, a rarely sober father\, a scam-artist aunt\, her own mortality\, and most terrifying of all\, the possibility of first love. KIMBERLY AKIMBO is a shrewd and strangely affecting comedy that’s a bit of youthful happiness unlike any other. \nPURCHASE YOUR TICKETS HERE:\nCHOOSE YOUR DATE:\n\nFriday\, June 5\, 8pm – Preview\nSaturday\, June 6\, 8pm – Opening Night and Champagne Gala\nFriday\, June 12\, 8pm\nSaturday\, June 13\, 8pm\nSunday\, June 14\, 2pm\nFriday\, June 19\, 8pm\nSaturday\, June 20\, 8pm\nSunday\, June 21\, 2pm\nFriday\, June 26\, 8pm\nSaturday\, June 27\, 8pm\nSunday\, June 28\, 2pm\nThursday\, July 2\, 8pm – Special Thursday Night Show\nFriday\, July 3\, 8pm – Closing Night\n\nAGE LIMIT\nAs a courtesy to our patrons\, it is the policy of the theatre not to admit children under the age of 5.
