(Role requires a British accent.) \nALICE (F\, 50s to 60s; character of British Caucasian decent): Harry’s resilient and no-nonsense wife.  She helps with the pub and serves as a grounded counterpoint to Harry’s arrogance\, though she often bears the brunt of his insults and dismissive behavior. (Role requires a British accent.) \nSHIRLEY (F\, 18 – 25 to play 15; character of British Caucasian decent): Their 15-year-old daughter often described as “mopey” and “moody”.  She is shy and sensitive\, seeking her own voice while living under her parents’ dominating presence. (Role requires a British accent.) \nSYD (M\, 40s – 60; character of British Caucasian decent):  Harry’s former assistant executioner who was fired for “sexual impropriety” involving a corpse. He is mousy\, comical\, and somewhat bumbling\, carrying a mix of shame and a desire for revenge against Harry. (Role requires a British accent.) \nMOONEY (M\, Thirties; character of British Caucasian decent): A mysterious and menacing young Londoner who arrives at the pub. He is secretive\, calculating\, manipulative and fast-talking.  He disrupts the pub’s routine with a veiled sense of danger. (Role requires a British accent.) \nPIERREPOINT (M\, Late 60s to 70s; character of British Caucasian decent): England’s real-life most famous hangman and Harry’s professional rival. He makes a late but commanding appearance that highlights Harry’s petty insecurities by comparison. (Role requires a British accent.) \nINSPECTOR FRY (M\, 50s to 60s; character of British Caucasian decent): A local police inspector who is more interested in drinking at the pub than doing his job.  He has known Harry for a long time and tends to turn a blind eye to the pub’s goings-on. (Role requires a British accent.) \nARTHUR (M\, 60s to 70s; character of British Caucasian decent):  An elderly\, nearly deaf pub regular who needs everything repeated to him and often gets it wrong anyway. (Role requires a British accent.)   \nCHARLIE (M\, 40s; character of British Caucasian decent): A loyal pub regular who often explains the ongoing conversations to Arthur. (Role requires a British accent.) \nBILL (M\, 40s; character of British Caucasian decent):  Another local patron who rounds out the sycophantic chorus of regulars that Harry orders around. (Role requires a British accent.) \nCLEGG (M\, 20s; character of British Caucasian decent):  An opportunistic baby-faced journalist who visits the pub to interview Harry about the end of capital punishment. Romero and John Russo\, set in the fictional town of Evans City\, Pennsylvania\, in 1968. There are local news reports of the dead rising from grave\, and the police department is quickly overrun- with reports of ghouls and the town’s people are powerless to stop flesh-eating zombies. Our leading couple\, BEN and BARBARA must hide out from undead in a farmhouse with a couple\, HARRY and HELEN COOPER and their daughter\, KAREN\, for the time being\, but can they or anyone be trusted? \nCASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:\nNOTE: All roles are open to any ethnicity unless specifically listed (BEN & BARBARA.)  Long Beach Playhouse encourages actors of all backgrounds\, gender identities\, and abilities to audition. \nNIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD is a horror themed stage production that will feature undead creatures and simulated blood\, brains\, and guts.  You should make sure you are comfortable with the subject matter and style of the show before auditioning. \nBEN (M\, 18-40\, African American): Dynamic and strong; leader type. \nBARBARA (F\, 18-30\, Caucasian): Frightened yet resilient; at first dazed by what is happening. \nJOHNNY: (M\, 18-30): Barbara’s brother and a bit of a jerk.  Later gets turned into a ghoul. \nHARRY COOPER (M\, 30-65): Gruff and old-fashioned\, husband to Helen.  Out for himself and his family. \nHELEN COOPER (F\, 30-65): Reactionary and frightened\, wife to Harry. Is more reasonable and cooperative than her husband. \nKAREN COOPER (F\, 12-21 to play young girl): Daughter of Helen and Harry; seems innocent\, but has a dangerous secret. \nTOM (M\, 16-21 to play teenager) Teenager\, boyfriend to Judy. Wants to help\, but ends up an innocent victim. \nJUDY (F\, 16-21 to play teenager) Teenager\, girlfriend to Tom.  Is deeply devoted\, but ends up an innocent victim. \nNEWS ANCHOR (M or F\, 20-65): Strong and assertive; trying to come to grips with what is happening. \nFIELD NEWS ANCHOR- (M or F\, 20-65): Struggling to be famous; trying to come to grips with what is happening. \nDR. GRIMES (F\, 20-65): Scientist determined to learn what is going on; this side of bizarre or eccentric. \nCHIEF McCLELLAND (M or F\, 20-65):\, County Sheriff – typical movie police officer. \nVINCE (M\, 18-28): Chief McClelland’s Deputy; good with a rifle. \nRUSS/GHOUL 1 (M\, 18-65): Chief McClelland’s Deputy\, then ghoulish and full of death. \nSALLY/GHOUL 2 (F\, 21-65): Server when living and a ghoul when dead. \nCEMETERY GHOUL (M\, 18-65): Quiet\, unassuming yet dead; non-speaking\, just moaning. \nDINER CUSTOMER 2/GHOUL 3 (M or F\, 18-65): Small speaking role and later a ghoul. \nDINER CUSTOMER 1/GHOUL 4 (M or F\, 18-65): Small speaking role and later a ghoul. \nBEGINNING REHEARSAL SCHEDULE:\n  \n\n\nNight of the Living Dead Beg.
