Stephen Brantley (Shruti Gupta Can Totally Deal)  \n & Raegan Payne (The Dying Declaration of Madge Obeholtzer) \nDIRECTOR: Evan Battle (Shruti Gupta Can Totally Deal)\,  \n Holland Renton (The Dying Declaration of Madge Oberholtzer) \nRUN:  Friday\, March 29\, 2019 (Shruti Gupta Can Totally Deal)\,  \n & Saturday\, March 30\, 2019 (The Dying Declaration of Madge Ober holtzer) \nThis is a community theater production.  Non-Equity.  There is no pay.  \nAUDITION DATES:\nOpen Call: \nDates: Wednesday\, Feb. 27 (One night only for both plays.) \nTimes: 7pm – 9pm \nLocation: Long Beach Playhouse   \nREHEARSALS:\nThere will be 3-4 rehearsals before the stage reading arranged between the directors and the actors cast. \nAUDITION REQUIREMENTS:\nBring headshot and resume. Sides for cold readings will be provided at the auditions.  \nNEW WORKS FESTIVAL INFORMATION:  \nThis annual festival nurtures emerging and established playwrights to develop new scripts. Reading 100+ scripts a year\, the New Works Literary Committee chooses two top plays to receive a stage reading with critical feedback from professional theatre critics and audience talk back. \nAs it is a stage reading\, there will only be 3-4 rehearsals\, and actors will not need to memorize their scripts.  The stage reading of their show will only happen one night\, and there will be a talk back with the audience after the reading. \nTHE SHOW: SHRUTI GUPTA CAN TOTALLY DEAL \nby J. Stephen Brantley \nDIRECTOR: Evan Battle \nSHORT SYNOPSIS:   \nShruti Gupta is a DACA recipient in her senior year of medical school. \nBut when Irish actor Liam appears in Shruti’s patient communications simulation exam\, a cross-cultural romance  blossoms that finds them having to navigate cultural traditions and what it means to be ‘American’. \nCASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES: \nSHRUTI: (F\, 18+) A med student and DACA recipient\, living very efficiently in Jackson Heights\, Queens.  \n RAJ: (M\, 18+) Her brother\, gay\, the prince of the family.  \n KEVIN: (M\, 18+) Latino\, an attorney and Raj’s fiancé.  \n BABA: (M\, 40+) Shruti’s father\, owner of a jewelry story\, a gentle joker.  \n DEEPSIKHA: (F\, 40+) Shruti’s somewhat stern mother\, elegant and cool.  \n PATRICE: (F/M/NC\, 18+) Shruti’s best friend and fellow medical student.  \n STEVE: (M\, 18+) Shruti’s classmate who fancies himself a player.  \n LIAM: (M\, 18+) Charming Irish actor and musician Shruti falls in love with.  \n CINNAMON: (F\, 18+) Musical theatre actor and Liam’s ex-girlfriend.  \n THUGS 1&2: (M\, 18+) Anti-immigrant thugs. \n PROFESSORS A&B: (M/F\, 18+) Instructors at Shruti’s school.  \n CONDUCTOR: (M/F\, 18+) Racist train conductor.  \n MAN: (M\, 18+) ICE Officer \n Shruti Gupta Can Totally Deal is written to be performed by nine actors\, with three taking on multiple roles:   \nSTEVE/THUG 1/MAN  \nPROFESSOR A/KEVIN/THUG 2  \nPROFESSOR B/CONDUCTOR/CINNAMON  \n\nTHE SHOW: THE DYING DECLARATION OF MADGE OBERHOLTZER \nby Raegan Payne \nDIRECTOR: Holland Renton \nSHORT SYNOPSIS:  \nTaking place in Indiana between the years of 1915 – 1925\, the play follows the story of Madge as she navigates the social\, racial\, and gender inequalities of the era.  \nCASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:\nDECLARATION – (F\, any age/type) . A survivor telling her story. \nMADGE OBERHOLTZER(F\, late 20s). Works in the Indian Government’s literacy program. A fiercely independent woman.  \nERMINA MORE – (F\, 30s). Madge’s best friend. Loyal and independent.  \nD.C. STEPHESON (M\, 30s). Grand Dragon of the KKK in Indiana. Noted liar\, millionaire\, ambitious and charming.  \nMATILDA OBERHOLTZER (F\, 50 – 60). Member of the Women’s Temperance League. The concerned mother of Madge.  \nGEORGE OBERHOLTZR (M\, 60s). Postal worker and Madge’s father. A bit ahead of his time.  \nASA SMITH (M\, early 30s). Lawyer. Fought Germans outside of Paris where his eyes where his eyes were damaged by mustard gas. Noted KKK enemy.  \nMRS. JOHNSON (F\, 50 – 60). A busy body. Neighbor and friend of Matilda.  \nLILLIAN REED (F\, 20s – 40s). Hotel Maid and reluctant witness. (Actor will also act as the “narrator\,” reading the necessary stage directions.)  \nSWING (M\, 30s – 40s). This actor will portray 5 characters:\nDr. Kingsbury\, the family doctor; Governor Jackson\, the KKK backed Governor of Indiana; Earl Klink\, former deputy sheriff and D.C.’s body guard Minister\, KKK recruiter\, Shorty\, D.C.’s henchman. \nJOIN OUR FACEBOOK EVENT AND LET US KNOW YOU’RE COMING!
