DESCRIPTION:THE LBP NEW WORKS 2021 WINNERS FESTIVAL AUDITION NOTICE:\nTITLES: “BOOK CLUB” \n “LEON’S WARNING” \nAUTHORS: Suzie Heaton\, “Book Club” \nMarc Littman\, “Leon’s Warning” \nDIRECTORS: Angela Kozik\, “Book Club” \nGregory Cohen\, “Leon’s Warning” \nRUN: Showings of the recorded readings on Friday\, June 4\, 2021 for “Book Club” and Saturday\, June 5\, 2021 for “Leon’s Warning” with live Online Talkbacks afterward with the cast and director. \nThis is a community theater production.  Non-Equity.  There is no pay.  \nAUDITION DATES:\nOpen Call: Video Submissions \nDates: Open Now till April 26th. \nREHEARSALS:\nOnline via Zoom: \nFor “Book Club” – Saturdays starting at 10 am. \nFor “Leon’s Warning” – Wednesdays starting at 7pm. \nThere will be 2 – 3 rehearsals before the recording of the reading.  Actors will also be asked to take part in a live online talkback after the showing of the recording on Friday June 4\, 2021 or Saturday\, June 5\, 2021 \nAUDITION REQUIREMENTS:\nAll Open Call Auditions will be by Video Submission.   \nPlease fill out an online audition form indicating what show and what roles you are auditioning for (can be both shows and multiple roles)\, and send a PDF of the audition form\, along with digital versions of your headshot and resume. \nYour video should be of you performing the Monologue side provided for the character you are auditioning for.  If you are auditioning for a smaller part that doesn’t have a specific side (For example from “Leon’s Warning” – Panhandler\, Detective 1\, Detective 2\, Narrator)\, use any side\, and mark what roles you are auditioning for on the audition form. \nPlease upload your video to Google Drive\, and then email the link\, making sure you have enabled the setting to make the link available to all with the link. \nLink to Audition Materials (Audition Forms and Sides): \nAUDITION MATERIALS HERE \nREMEMBER: \nPlease include in your email: \n\nThe Google Drive Link of your Video Submission with general sharing enabled.\nThe PDF of your Audition Form.\nDigital Versions of your Headshot and Resume.\n\nEmail Audition Submissions to: \nThe Long Beach Playhouse’s Producing Artistic Director Sean Gray at sean@lbplayhouse.org  \nNEW WORKS FESTIVAL INFORMATION:  \nThis annual festival nurtures emerging and established playwrights to develop new scripts. Reading 100+ scripts a year\, the New Works Literary Committee chooses two top plays to receive a stage reading with critical feedback from professional theatre critics and audience talk back. \nAs it is a stage reading\, there will only be 2-3 rehearsals\, and actors will not need to memorize their scripts.  \nABOUT THE SHOWS AND CAST BREAKDOWNS:\nSHOW 1: \nBOOK CLUB \nBy Suzie Heaton \nDIRECTOR: Angela Kozik \nSHORT SYNOPSIS: Like the old saying goes\, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” These five older ladies are more than just a book club that gossips and drinks tea on Saturday nights. Mistaken identity\, stake outs and even dare we say it\, murder\, ensues as we join our fabulous five on their wild adventures proving that age really is just a number. *Adult themes & Language* \nCASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES: \nNOTE:  All roles are open to any ethnicity. \nLUCILLE (F\, 70) Started the book club. Murderer (in self-defense of course). \nMARGOT (F\, 72) Lucille’s best friend and lives two doors down. Member of the book club. \nAGNES (F\, 70) Member of the book club. Very religious. Seems proper but can get the job done when you need her to.  \nDONNELL (F\, 71) Fraternal twin to Darcey. Tough take charge person. Likes facts and details. Member of the book club \nDARCY (F\, 71) Fraternal twin to Donnell\, jokester and snarky. Member of the book club. \nOFFICER 1 (Any Gender\, 20s-60s) “Bad Cop” Not a lot of patience\, expects people to respect the badge. \nOFFICER 2 (Any Gender\, 20s-60s) “Good Cop” Patient\, idealistic about the job. \nBOYFRIEND (M 18-20s) Boyfriend to Sophia\, arrogant. Thinks he’s a tough guy.  \n  \nSHOW 2: \nLEON’S WARNING  \nBy Marc Littman \nDIRECTOR: Gregory Cohen \nSHORT SYNOPSIS: \nAn unlikely friendship forms between Derek\, an uptight banker\, and a homeless veteran named Leon as they slowly and painfully learn the truths about the guilt that each of them carry from their past relationships.  Political and philosophical issues mix with the painful fallout of addiction as they develop an uneasy respect for each other. \nCASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES: \nNOTE: Except where specified\, we encourage racially and gender diverse casting. \nLEON (M\, 42) – A disabled Black man\, transient; very wise\, though troubled; a war veteran trying to triumphant over his PTSD \nDEREK (M\, 36) – A stocky White man\, banker; probably addicted to Opioids; guilt-ridden over his previous treatment to his addict brother \nTEDDY (M\, 40) – Derek’s older brother\, 40; appears in one scene as a vision who carries on a dialogue with his brother \nPANHANDLER (M or F\, any age) –  To double with one of the detectives \nFIRST DETECTIVE (M or F\, 30s-60s) – Typical plainclothes detective investigating the outcome of a riot \nSECOND DETECTIVE (M or F\, 30s-60s) – Typical plainclothes detective investigating the outcome of a riot \nNARRATOR (M or F\, Any Age) – Reader of stage directions and settings
