DESCRIPTION:AUDITION NOTICE\nTITLE: ANGELS IN AMERICA PART ONE: MILLENNIUM APPROACHES \nAUTHOR: Tony Kushner \nDIRECTOR: Ryan Holihan \nRUN:  October 2nd – October 30th\, 2021 \nFridays & Saturdays 8pm\, Sundays at 2pm. Special performances on Thursday and Sunday nights may be added for private parties and special events. \nThis is a community theater production.  Non-Equity.  There is no pay.  \nAt this time\, all volunteers including actors must be fully vaccinated to participate in shows. \nAUDITION DATES:\nOpen Call to Recast Certain Roles:  \nDates: Monday\, August 9th & Tuesday\, August 10th\, 2021  \nTimes: 7pm – 9pm \nLocation: Long Beach Playhouse   \nCallbacks: \nDate and Time: Wednesday\, August 11th\, 7pm – 10pm\, by invitation only. \nREHEARSALS:\nFirst Read-Through: Saturday\, August 14th at Noon. \nRegular Rehearsal: Mondays – Thursdays from 7pm to 10pm and Saturdays 11am to 3pm. \nLocation: Long Beach Playhouse \nLINK TO BEGINNING REHEARSAL CALENDAR\n  \nAUDITION REQUIREMENTS:\n\nWe are recasting some roles from our planned production of Angels in America from 2020.  \nPlease bring headshot and resume. \nSides for cold readings will be provided at the auditions. \nPlease bring your vaccination card as written proof of full vaccination to the auditions. Masks will be required at the auditions.\nMust be 18 or older to audition.  \nThe roles of Prior\, Joseph (in Part Two)\, and Harper (in Part Two) will require nudity.\n\nAll nudity during the show\, rehearsals\, and auditions will be handled under strict guidelines.  Please take note that while this is not an Equity production\, we will be following guidelines taken from the Equity Rules. \nNOTE: The Playhouse will produce the second part of ANGELS IN AMERICA: PERESTROIKA as the opener of their 2022 Studio Season next year.  Actors cast in Part One may be invited back to participate in Part Two after the run of Part One. \nSHORT SYNOPSIS:  \nAngels in America is a fantastic and sometimes surreal journey through the lives of two couples during the AIDS crisis in 1985-86.  One couple is Louis\, a Jewish word processor\, and Prior Walter\, a former drag queen who has AIDS.  The other is Joe Pitt\, a Mormon Republican and lawyer\, and his wife\, Harper.  Another key player is the ethically questionable lawyer Roy Cohn\, a dramatized version of the real person (Cohn was counsel to Senator Joseph McCarthy during the “Communist witch-hunts” of the 1950’s.)  Cohn is dying of AIDS and is in the process of being disbarred. \nRE-CASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES (4 actors):\nNOTE:  All roles are open to any ethnicity except where it is specifically dictated by the script.  Specific ethnicities will be indicated in the character descriptions if necessary. \nJOSEPH PORTER PITT (M\, early 30’s\, Ethnicity: White Mormon from Utah) Mormon chief clerk for Justice Theodore Wilson of the Federal Court of Appeals\, Second Circuit. Actor also plays Prior Walter 1 and Eskimo.  (Role Requires full nudity in Part Two: Perestroika\, occurring next year)  \nHARPER AMA TY PITT (F\, early 30’s\, Ethnicity: White Mormon from Utah) Joe’s Mormon wife\, an agoraphobic with a mild Valium addiction.  Actor also plays Martin.  (Role Requires full nudity in Part Two: Perestroika\, occurring next year)  \nPRIOR WALTER (M\, 31\, Ethnicity: White WASP\, last member of a long-lived family with English ancestors.) Louis’s boyfriend. Occasionally works as a club designer or caterer\, otherwise lives very modestly but with great style off a small trust fund. Actor also plays Man in Park. (Role Requires full nudity) \nLOUIS IRONSON (M\, early 30’s\, Ethnicity: White Jew from New York Area) a Jewish word processor working for the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. \nNOTE: The rest of the roles in the show will be retained by those actors originally cast in 2020.  The Playhouse will produce the second part of ANGELS IN AMERICA: PERESTROIKA as the opener of their 2022 Studio Season next year.  Actors cast in Part One may be invited back to participate in Part Two after the run of Part One.
