LOOT is Joe Orton’s masterpiece of dark comedy where we follow the fortunes of two young thieves – Dennis\, an undertaker at the funeral parlour\, and Hal\, his sometime lover\, whose Mum just died. When Inspector Truscott turns up\, they need a place to hide the loot.  But with the money in Mum’s coffin\, there’s no place for Mum\, whose body keeps reappearing at the most inopportune times. DESCRIPTION:SWEAT\nPlaying in the Long Beach Playhouse’s Studio Theater\nJuly 20 – Aug. 17\, 2024\nBy Lynn Nottage\nDirected by Maisha Azadi Sebastiany\nKeenly observed and filled with warm humor and tremendous heart\, SWEAT tells the story of a group of friends who have spent their lives sharing drinks\, secrets\, and laughs while working together on the factory floor in the Rust Belt of Reading\, Pennsylvania. But when layoffs and picket lines begin to chip away at their trust\, the friends find themselves pitted against each other in a heart-wrenching fight to stay afloat. One morning Jamie makes an astonishing declaration. He announces that he is dead – and now a ghost. Tommy\, naturally\, is unconvinced\, maintaining that his brother’s delusion is caused by the grief Jamie has suffered since their mother’s death. Through humor and pathos\, the play explores themes of love\, loss\, and redemption\, culminating in the discovery that the eternal exists in their fraternal bond. The One Good Thing… should fuel speculation about what is real and what is imaginary. However\, ultimately\, it should touch the heart. \nWritten by Joe Bravaco \nJUDGEMENT OF THE EYE – Han Van Meegeren\, a struggling Dutch artist\, realizes his skill is forgeries and sell millions of dollars of fake art. Elice Johnson\, the family matriarch\, leans on her faith to hold everyone together\, but her adult children wrestle with doubt\, disappointment\, and what belief means in their own lives. As memories of their late brother Emmanuel linger\, conversations about love\, loss\, and religion push the family to confront the difference between inherited faith and lived experience. \nCompany Statement:\nNodding Off in Church marks the first official production under our company\, and we couldn’t think of a better place to bring it to life than the Long Beach Playhouse. I had the honor of performing here last year in August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson\, an experience I’ll cherish for the rest of my life.
