While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives\, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words\, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Eight spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box. A riotous ride\, complete with audience participation\, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a delightful den of comedic genius. \nCASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:\nNOTE: We encourage performers of all races and ethnicities\, gender identities\, sexualities\, abilities\, and ages to audition.  \nCHIP TOLENTINO (M\, 16+ – Able to play a 6th grade speller) The reigning spelling champion of Putnam County. Slightly athletic and social\, he expects things to come easily to him. This role requires some sustained high notes\, up to a sustained high A in his solo number. (Also plays Jesus.) Vocal Range: Tenor to B (Vocal Range C4-B5) \nLOGAINNE SCHWARTZANDGRUBENNIERE (F\, 16+ to play Middle School Aged Character) Younger than most bee participants\, she is driven by internal and external pressure—but above all else\, a desire to when to please her two fathers. Speaks with a lisp. Vocal Range: Alto G to Eb (Vocal Range A3-F5) \nLEAF CONEYBEAR (M/F/NON-BI\, 16+ to play Middle School Aged Character) A second alternate to the bee\, never expected to compete. Home-schooled with many siblings\, everything about the public bee is an adventure to them. They have severe Attention Deficit Disorder and his best friend is his finger puppet. Vocal Range: Baritone to G (Vocal Range A3-A5) \nWILLIAM BARFEE (M\, 16+ to play Middle School Aged Character) Has a host of health problems and a lot to prove. Loud and combative—becomes the bully to avoid being picked out by others\, but eventually warms up. A strong comedic role. Vocal Range: Tenor to Bb (Vocal Range E4-B5) \nMARCY PARKERS (F\, 16+ to play Middle School Aged Character) The ultimate over-achiever\, Marcy has never been given another option. Vocal Range: Mezzo to Eb (Vocal Range C4-E5) \nOLIVE OSTROVSKY (F\, 16+ to play Middle School Aged Character) A word-lover\, Olive has a fairly quiet life\, a result of often-absent parents and being an only child. She spends most of her time with the dictionary\, which brings her comfort with its vastness of wonder. This role requires a strong belter contained in a shy and sweet young girl. Vocal Range: Mezzo A to high G (Vocal Range B3-F5) \nRONA LISA PERRETTI (F\, 30’s) Putnam County’s long-time spelling bee hostess\, a local realtor\, and the winner of the 3rd annual bee. This is Rona’s day to be queen\, and her own when is sadly the highlight of her life still. (Also plays Olive’s Mom.) This role requires a strong belter. Vocal Range: Mezzo up to A (Vocal Range B3-F5) \nVICE PRINCIPAL DOUGLAS PANCH (M\, 30’s) The vice principal of a local middle school\, he is frustrated with his life. Forced to be a substitute co-host of the bee\, he finds the whole thing odd\, but attempts to play along to impress Rona\, which he has a crush. (minimal singing) (NO SOLOS\, THOUGH REQUESTED TO SING WHEN APPLICABLE.) \nMITCH MAHONEY (M\, 18-25) With a bouncer’s physique and demeanor\, Mitch appears an odd choice for the bee’s “comfort counselor\,” but it is part of his community service. SUMMARY:URINETOWN The Musical
DESCRIPTION:Music and Lyrics by Mark Hollman \nBook and Lyrics by Greg Kotis \nDirected by Rovin Jay \nAssistant Directed and Choreographed by Sonya L. Randall \nMusical Direction by Stephen Olear \nWinner of three Tony Awards\, Urinetown is a hilarious musical satire of capitalism\, bureaucracy\, corporate mismanagement\, municipal politics\, and musical theatre itself! In a large city a terrible water shortage\, caused by a 20-year drought\, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities\, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. Amid the people\, a hero decides that he’s had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom! This irreverently humorous “comedic romp” reinvigorates the very notion of what a musical could be\, with wickedly modern wit and sustained unbridled laughter! \n \nCHOOSE YOUR DATE:\nTHIS PRODUCTION CLOSED NOV. 19TH\, 2022 \n \nCOVID Patron Safety Protocol\nPlease know that at our performances you\, and everyone in your party (including children)\, will be asked to: \n\nWear a mask within the facility.\nVoluntarily assume all risks related to potential exposure to COVID-19.\n\nAny questions regarding the policy please call and speak to a staff member\, 562-494-1014 \nPLEASE NOTE: The Studio Theater is on the 2nd Floor. (British accent required.) \nGINNY (F\, to play 25-30) Lovely young woman in love with Greg\, but concealing a past relationship with an older man.  Her apartment reflects an energetic participant in the mod London scene of the 1960s. The character appears briefly in their undergarments on stage (1960s period bra and panties) and will engage in romantic contact with the character of Greg (kissing\, embracing.) (British accent required.) \nPHILIP (M\, to play around 50) Dissatisfied long-time husband of Sheila.  He has had an affair with his former office underling\, Ginny.  A successful businessman and gardening aficionado. He suspects his wife is having an affair and wishes to continue his own with Ginny.  (British accent required.) \nSHEILA: (F\, to play 45-50) Philip’s wife.  She is sometimes a bit befuddled but is a pleasant\, competent housewife and hostess.  She keeps her husband guessing about her fidelity to him but also shows concern for him. (British accent required.)

\nCASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:\nNOTE: Actively seeking all ethnicities for all roles  \nBOBBY STRONG (M\, 20-30\, A2-C5) The dashing\, rebellious everyman who works for Miss Pennywise at the poorest\, filthiest town urinal. She serves as a quasi-narrator who often questions Lockstock and the play’s logic. \nPENELOPE PENNYWISE (F\, 35+\, A3-C6) The tough\, jaded warden of the poorest\, filthiest town urinal. Did the world’s greatest sleuth fake his own death? Who’s the real detective and who are the imposters? \nCASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:\nNOTE:  All Roles will require a British Accent. \nWATSON (M\, 40s-50s) Any ethnicity. Polite\, reserved\, detail oriented\, everything you’d expect from Sherlock Holmes’ sidekick. However\, he is also seemingly a bit at the end of his rope\, having suffered many personal losses as of late. He presents himself as Watson in an unfamiliar role\, that of the sidekick on his own. He displays a surprising fortitude to make a go of it without Sherlock and is several steps ahead of the situation at all times. (Role Requires a British Accent) \nDR. EVANS (M\, 40s-50s)  Any ethnicity. Silky and officious\, he is the man in charge of an Asylum on an isolated island. No nonsense and intense\, but with an English gentleman’s demeanor. His assertive charm is mysterious and commanding (Role Requires a British Accent) \nORDERLY/MORIARTY/INSPECTOR  (M\, 40s-50s) Any ethnicity. One of Dr. Evans’s assistants. Dark\, mysterious\, and very observant. Says little but sees much. He wears an asylum employee uniform./ Sherlock’s nemesis and suspect at the incident at Reichenbach Falls. He is an older man with a dark and quizzical personality.  / Once a comrade of Sherlock’s\, he is the one who inspects the incident at the masque ball. Has very prominent black muttonchops. (Role Requires a British Accent) \nMATRON/THE WOMAN (F\, 35-50) Any ethnicity.  Dr. Evans’s other assistant. She wears her own version of the employee uniform\, with her hair in a bun. She carries an almost chilly\, robotic demeanor. / A beautiful and mysterious woman at the masque ball\, helps Client steal a document from Fonseca. (Role Requires a British Accent) \nHOLMES 1/THE CLIENT (M\, 40s-50s) The first of the three Holmes to arrive at the asylum and to be interviewed\, Patient 1 presents the demeanor we expect of Holmes; he is brusque and rather forward with Watson. He wears a jacket\, vest and slacks and looks almost identical to the Holmes we all know. / A sinister man who approaches The Woman with a proposition to steal a document from Signor Fonseca. (Role Requires a British Accent) \nHOLMES 2 (M\, 40s-50s) The second Holmes is disheveled\, restless and exhibits the skeptical nature of Sherlock Holmes. He wears a straitjacket and has long hair. (Role Requires a British Accent) \nHOLMES 3/SIGNOR FONSECA (M\, 40s-50s) The third Holmes also looks similar to the Holmes Watson remembers\, but his head is shaved. He does not speak\, nor can he appear to hear. His gaze is always forward\, as he is in a catatonic state. / A jealous Italian man with a thick accent and a curly black mustache. He is a performer at the masque ball. (Role may require actor to shave their head. Requires a British Accent)

Find out in this very funny\, darkly comic tale from the playwright who brought us The Lieutenant of Inishmore and the recent Oscar-nominated film\, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing\, Missouri.
