Fresh in emotion\, the two want to marry\, and are helped by a well-meaning friar with the hope of burying ancient grudges.  Good intentions lead to grave consequences in a tragedy that prevails for the ages. \nA CHRISTMAS CAROL\nAdapted from the novella by Charles Dickens\nDec. 7 – Dec. 22\, 2024\nHoliday favorite A CHRISTMAS CAROL returns for its annual incarnation in this quick-paced\, highly theatrical retelling of Charles Dickens’ classic tale. The ghosts of Christmases Past\, Present\, and Future show Ebenezer Scrooge the poverty of his miserly ways and the blessings that come with generosity. Can they convince him to change before it’s too late? Come spend time with the characters you’ve come to love – Bob Cratchit\, Tiny Tim\, and of course the irascible miser himself.  This yearly tradition will be the Christmas ghost story needed to set you and your loved ones on the path to holiday cheer. \nAgatha Christie’s THE MURDER OF ROGER ACKROYD\nAdapted by Philip Grecian from the novel by Agatha Christie\nJan. 11 – Feb. 8\, 2025\nFrom Agatha Christie’s highly-praised novel comes this thrilling adaptation of THE MURDER OF ROGER ACKROYD. Famed Detective Hercule Poirot has retired from sleuthing to garden near the small village of King’s Abbot. But when his friend and local patrician Roger Ackroyd is murdered in his country manor\, Poirot is pressed to investigate. To discover the killer\, he enlists the aid of the local doctor to be his “Watson\,” and the new detecting duo uncover a web of deceit in which every member of the household has something to hide.  No one will foresee the shocking twist as the murderer finds there is no secret they can keep from Hercule Poirot. \nAugust Wilson’s THE PIANO LESSON\nBy August Wilson\nFeb. 22 – Mar. 22\, 2025\nCan you transcend the past? In August Wilson’s masterpiece\, THE PIANO LESSON\, the past is a ghost that haunts a Black family’s dreams of a better life. It’s the Great Depression\, and Boy Willie has come north to Pittsburgh to see his sister\, Bernice\, with an opportunity to buy some land down home in Mississippi. He wants her to sell the family’s antique piano.  But it is more than just a musical instrument; it’s a testament to the family’s rise from slavery\, carved with the images of their ancestors. As the siblings contend with each other\, can they escape the lives of their forefathers and put to rest the ghosts that still haunt them? \nNeil Simon’s GOD’S FAVORITE\nBy Neil Simon\nApril 5 – May 3\, 2025\nNeil Simon is at it again in the awesomely funny comedy GOD’S FAVORITE! Successful businessman Joe Benjamin is a modern day ‘Job’ with a loving wife\, two clueless but supportive younger children\, and a household staff. But he is exasperated with his wise-cracking and seemingly apathetic oldest son. Just when it seems things couldn’t get any worse\, he is visited by Sidney Lipton\, a.k.a. A Messenger from God (and compulsive film buff)\, with a mission: test Joe’s faith and report back to “the Boss.” The jokes and tests of faith fly fast and furious as Simon spins a comedy like no other in this hilarious contemporary morality tale. \nSTEEL MAGNOLIAS\nBy Robert Harling\nMay 17 – June 14\, 2025\nSee the beloved play the popular movie is based on – STEEL MAGNOLIAS. Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin\, Louisiana is the place where the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s queen bees: local social leader\, M’Lynn\, whose daughter\, Shelby\, is about to get married; eccentric millionaire\, Miss Clairee\, who has a raging sweet tooth; rich curmudgeon\, Ouiser\, who’s been in a bad mood for forty years; all helped out by Truvy’s eager new assistant\, Annelle. Filled with hilarious repartee\, this lovingly evoked picture of eccentricity in the small-town South will have your heart aching with laughter and heartbreak. \nFIDDLER ON THE ROOF\nBook by Joseph Stein\, Music by Jerry Bock\, Lyrics by Sheldon Harnick\nJune 28 – Aug. 3\, 2025\nWinner of nine Tony Awards\, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF has touched audiences worldwide with its message of humor\, warmth\, and honesty. Set in the tight-knit\, traditional Jewish community of Anatevka\, Tevye\, a poor milkman\, his wife Golde\, and their five daughters face the changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of 1905 Czarist Russia. Filled with iconic and beloved songs such as “Sunrise\, Sunset\,” “If I Were a Rich Man\,” and “Matchmaker\, Matchmaker\,” this universal musical will leave you and your family crying tears of sadness\, laughter\, and joy.

Always considered an outsider and not afforded many job opportunities\, he crosses the picket line when the plant offers more than what he makes at the bar.  \nTRACEY  (F\, 45/53)  White American of German descent. Jason’s mom and best friend of Cynthia and Jessie. Tracey is a strong willed\, quick tongued\, no nonsense woman\, also one of the hardest workers at Olstead’s. Opinionated and proud of the work her family has done\, she has been working at the plant for over twenty years\, following her father and grandfather.. Much like her son\, she doesn’t care if what she says offends you or hurts your feelings. She feels betrayed by Cynthia after she receives a  promotion.  \nCYNTHIA  (F\, 45/53)  African-American. Chris’s mom and best friends with Tracey and Jessie. She is determined to not only do well for herself\, but to also see her son Chris do well. She is ambitious and applies for the promotion that moves her up to a managerial position. But when management wants to cut wages\, Cynthia finds herself pitted against her friends. Cynthia is compelling and full of layers and fully understands the pressure and importance of being a black woman in a white world. \nJESSIE (F\, 40’s)  Italian-American. Good friend of Cynthia and Tracey. Jessie tries her best to remain neutral between Cynthia and Tracey\, but later this neutrality is broken. She struggles with alcohol and inadvertently is often the comic relief with a glass of something always near. She’s forced to reckon with her failed dreams of wanting more for her life after landing job at the plant and never leaving.  \nBRUCIE (M 40’s) African-American. Chris’s father and Cynthia’s estranged husband. He has fallen on hard times and becomes involved with drugs\, although he starts a rehab program. It is revealed that his addiction issues are related to his being fired from his factory job after his union was pushed out. \nBEGINNING REHEARSAL SCHEDULE:\n\n\nSweat-Beg.-Rehearsal-Schedue-V.4Download

You will need to bring your own sheet music for your audition song. Please no Sondheim or Jason Robert Brown songs as these are hard to sight-read in an audition setting. All auditioners will need to sing with the accompanist – no a capella or recorded tracks. \nPlease be prepared to dance. \nSides for cold readings will be provided at the auditions/callbacks. \nSHORT SYNOPSIS:  \nWednesday Addams has grown up and fallen in love with a “normal” nice young man.  It’s time to introduce the families and\, Gomez\, Morticia\, Fester and the rest of the classically dark and morbid family must alter their behaviors to keep their beloved daughter happy (and her boyfriend’s family intact). \nCASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:\nAll ethnicities and gender identities will be considered for all roles. \nGOMEZ ADDAMS (M\, 40s-60s) The patriarch of the Addams Family – a loving father\, a passionate husband\, and (possibly) a homicidal maniac. (Vocal Range: Bb2-G4) \nMORTICIA ADDAMS (F\, late 30s-60s) The mother of the brood and object of Gomez’s adoration.  She is a strong matriarch and a beautiful\, but potentially dangerous\, presence. Strong dance skills a plus. (Vocal Range: G3-Bb5) \nUNCLE FESTER (M\, 30s-70s) Gomez’s oddly sexless brother.  He is in love with the moon (literally).  The narrator of the show. Willing to shave head a plus. (Vocal Range: C3-G4) \nGRANDMA (F or M\, Ancient) The Addams grandmother (unsure what side).  Tiny\, yet fierce\, matriarchal figure\, whose witchlike presence creates dire consequences for the families. (Vocal Range: G4-F5) \nWEDNESDAY ADDAMS (F\, 18-early 20s) The main focus of the love story within the production. She is battling her natural dark nature with the discovery of the brightness of being in love. (Vocal Range: A3-E5) \nPUGSLEY ADDAMS (M or F to play Male\, Pre-teen to Teenager) Wednesday’s younger brother.  Fears losing the torturous relationship he has with his sister.  Ideally on the chubby side. (Vocal Range: A3-F5) \nLURCH (M\, 20s – 80s) The Addams incredibly tall\, possibly undead\, mostly silent butler.  Has very few lines beyond grunts and growls\, but does have one solo in the finale. (Vocal Range: Eb2-E4) \nLUCAS BEINEKE (M\, 20s) Wednesday’s love interest.  A good-looking\, wealthy\, seemingly normal young man who is inexplicably attracted to the dark beauty that is Wednesday. (Vocal Range: C3-C5) \nMAL BEINEKE (M\, 40s-60s) Lucas’ stuck-up businessman father.  Must be able to bring the humor to this humorless banker-type and show the marital love buried deep within his complacency. (Vocal Range: C3-A4) \nALICE BEINEKE (F\, 40s-60s) Lucas’ frustrated\, yet loving mother.  She longs to break the bonds of marital boredom and find passion once more. (Vocal Range: Ab3-G#5) \nADDAMS ANCESTORS (4 M\, 4 F) The ensemble for the show.  Must have strong vocal and dance skills. \nBEGINNING REHEARSAL SCHEDULE: \n\n\nThe-Addams-Family-Beg.-Rehearsal-Schedule-V.2Download

SUMMARY:MEN ON BOATS
DESCRIPTION:MEN ON BOATS\nProduced by JD Theatricals in collaboration with the Long Beach Playhouse.\nPlaying in the Long Beach Playhouse’s Studio Theater\nApril 27 – May 25\, 2024\nBy Jaclyn Backhaus\nDirected by Meredith Miranda\nMEN ON BOATS is the true(ish) history of the 1869 expedition of the Grand Canyon when ten explorers\, in four boats\, lead by a one-armed captain\, set out to chart the course of the Colorado River. In an off the canyon-walls funny comedy\, the stalwartness\, the selfishness\, the cockiness\, and the cluelessness of this crew of insane yet loyal adventurers drips with satire as some of the roles are gender swapped.  This is a rollicking adventure that turns the American myth of man-ifest destiny on end and challenges the notion of who gets to make history with respect to its bold if fallible pioneers. \nPURCHASE YOUR TICKETS HERE:\nCHOOSE YOUR DATE:\nTHIS PRODUCTION CLOSED ON MAY 25\, 2024 \nLBP’s Opening Night Gala for MEN ON BOATS is sponsored by the Port of Long Beach! One of his greatest dark farces\, the play centers around two amateur thieves\, Dennis and Hal. Dennis works as a hearse driver for an undertaker and the pair have robbed the bank next door to the funeral parlor. They decide to hide their ‘loot’ in the coffin of Hal’s recently deceased mother\, stashing her body in a wardrobe in the meantime. However\, before they can remove the coffin\, the dead body is discovered by Fay McMahon\, a predatory nurse who makes a habit out of marrying men who subsequently die in strange circumstances. She has now quickly engaged herself to marry Hal’s father but when she discovers the stash of cash\, she demands a third of the spoils. Dennis and Hal’s tricky situation is worsened further by the arrival of Inspector Truscott\, who strangely disguises himself as a man from the local Water Board. Using the conventions of standard farce\, the trio attempt to keep the body and the money away from the Inspector in an increasingly tangled web of deceit and corruption. \nCASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:\nNOTE: Actively seeking all ethnicities for all roles \nMcLEAVY (Male\, Mid 40s to 60s) a sanctimonious and gullible widower and father.  (British accent required.) \nHAL (Male\, Mid 20s) A larcenous and promiscuous (with both sexes) nihilist.  One of the bank robbers and son of McLeavy.  (British accent required.) \nDENNIS (Male\, Mid 20s) Hal’s childhood friend\, lover\, and partner in bank robbery.  He is a hearse driver and has impregnated five different women.  (British accent required.) \nFAY (Female\, Late 20s – 30s) An attractive but murderous and avaricious nurse to the deceased woman in the casket\, on the prowl for her eighth husband and a cut of the loot.  (British accent required.) \nTRUSCOTT (Male\, 30s or 40s) A sneaky\, violent\, blow-hard police detective\, investigating the bank robbery.  He is part psychopath\, part clown.  (British accent required.) \nMEADOWS (Male\, 20s\, 30s or 40s) A police bobby who carries out the Inspector’s orders for arrest.  (British accent required.) \nBEGINNING REHEARSAL SCHEDULE:\n\n\nLoot-Beg.-Reh.-Schedule-v.2Download
