SUMMARY:THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK
DESCRIPTION:THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK\nBy Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett\, newly adapted by Wendy Kesselman\nApril 8 – May 6\, 2023\nDirected by Phyllis B. Gitlin\nIn this undeniably moving new adaptation\, Anne Frank emerges from history\, a living\, lyrical\, intensely gifted young girl\, who confronts her rapidly changing life and the increasing horror of her time with astonishing honesty\, wit\, and determination. Anne’s voice shines through in this impassioned drama about the lives of eight people hiding from the Nazis in a concealed storage attic\, as it captures the claustrophobic realities of their daily existence—their fear\, their hope\, their laughter\, their grief. SUMMARY:BLUES FOR AN ALABAMA SKY
DESCRIPTION:BLUES FOR AN ALABAMA SKY\nBy Pearl Cleage\nPlaying in the Long Beach Playhouse’s Mainstage Theater\nMay 20 – June 17\, 2023\nDirected by Sonya Randall\nIn the summer of 1930 in Harlem\, NY\, the creative euphoria of the Harlem Renaissance has given way to the harsher realities of the Great Depression. Hopelessly in love with Orlando yet still in disguise\, she must test his love before she reveals herself. \nORLANDO (M\, 18 – 29) The brave and tender youngest son of Sir Rowland de Bois whose eldest brother resents him. Orlando falls for Rosalind and can’t help but proclaim his love for her throughout the Forest of Arden. \nCELIA (F\, 18 – 25) Rosalind’s cousin and best friend and the daughter of Duke Frederick. Celia is more conventional than her cousin but still fiercely loyal. Oliver is not above dishonest means to rid himself of his brother. \nSILVIUS (M or F\, 20s – 30s) A young shepherd who is madly in love with Phoebe. Not deterred by the unrequited nature of his love\, Silvius is steadfastly doing whatever Phoebe commands of him. \nPHOEBE (F\, 20s-30s) A rural young woman who does not return Silvius’s love but is immediately infatuated with Rosalind’s male disguise. \nCORIN (M or F\, 40s – 50s) An older shepherd who attempts to teach Silvius the ways of love. Set in the Regency era\, this story follows the romantic misadventures that arise from Emma’s miscalculations and the humbling lessons which come with growing up. \nCASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:\nNOTE: Non-traditional casting welcome: open to all races\, genders\, and ages.  \nSome roles may be double-cast as household servants. \nMISS EMMA WOODHOUSE (F\, early 20s) An accomplished\, intelligent\, clever\, stubborn\, and sophisticated woman whose vanity lies in her confidence that she is always right. She has good intentions but also loves to play games with the lives of those she cares about. (Part requires a British accent.) \nMR. GEORGE KNIGHTLY (M\, mid 30s – early 40s) A witty\, rational\, and charitable gentleman who always maintains a sense of integrity. He is dear friends with the Woodhouse family. He is the only one that manages to stand up to Emma and eventually falls in love with her. (Part requires a British accent.) \nMR. HENRY WOODHOUSE (M\, 50s – 70s) Emma’s endlessly worried father. He is a homebody to a fault and resists any sort of change. He is a doting father to Emma and is blind to any faults she may have. (Part requires a British accent.) \nMISS HARRIET SMITH (F\, 18 + to play 17) A soft and naïve young woman who adores Emma. She is an orphan living at the local boarding school. She is uncertain in her own mind and seeks approval. (Part requires a British accent.) \nMRS. ANNE WESTON (F\, 30s – 50s) Emma’s former governess and Mr. Weston’s new wife. Her former name was Miss Anne Taylor. She is a close friend of Emma’s. She is a kind woman that essentially raised Emma and was perhaps a bit too indulgent with her. (Part requires a British accent.) \nMR. WESTON (M\, 50s – 60’s) The kind\, cheerful\, optimistic\, and easy-going neighbor of the Woodhouse family. He is the father of Frank Churchill from an earlier marriage wherein his first wife passed away. (Part requires a British accent.) \nMR. PHILIP ELTON (M\, mid 20’s) The ambitious rector of Highbury. He possesses an air of self-importance and is seeking the right marriage to climb the social ladder. (Part requires a British accent.) \nMR. ROBERT MARTIN (M\, mid 20s) A shy\, straightforward young farmer in love with Harriet Smith. He is not the most sophisticated of men\, but very capable. (Part requires a British accent.) \nMISS BATES (F\, 40s-60s) A unmarried woman who others would describe as a spinster. She is not particularly clever and she is overly talkative\, but she’s very warm-hearted. She lives in genteel poverty with her sickly mother. (Part requires a British accent.) \nJANE FAIRFAX (F\, early 20s) The niece of Miss Bates who comes to visit Highbury.  She is an accomplished\, talented\, gracious\, and beautiful young woman. (Part requires a British accent.) \nFRANK CHURCHILL (M\, early 20s) The son of Mr. Weston. He is charming\, well-mannered\, and handsome. He was raised by his aunt and is visiting Highbury for the first time. (Part requires a British accent.) \nMRS. AUGUSTA ELTON (F\, 20s-30s) Her former name was Miss Augusta Hawkins.  A vain\, superficial\, and well-to-do woman who marries Mr. Elton. (Part requires a British accent.) \nBEGINNING REHEARSAL SCHEDULE:\n  \n\n\nEmma-Beg.-Reh.-Schedule-V.3Download

SUMMARY:FRANKENSTEIN 1930
DESCRIPTION:FRANKENSTEIN 1930\nBy Fred Carmichael\nPlaying in the Long Beach Playhouse’s Mainstage Theater\nSept. 23 – Oct. 21\, 2023\nDirected by David Scaglione\nJust in time for the Halloween season\, FRANKENSTEIN 1930 harkens back to the Universal monster movies of the 1930s in a stage homage that features all the elements we love and remember from those films: the stone walled laboratory\, the crazed scientist\, angry villagers\, a swooning yet determined heroine\, a fearful storm\, and the hideous but sympathetic creature with its confused mind and powerful\, undisciplined body. Can Victor Frankenstein and his fiancée Elizabeth subdue his deadly creation\, or will the final confrontation be the end of them all?!? \nCHOOSE A DATE:\nThis Production Closed on Oct. 21\, 2023 \n  \nPREVIEW CLIP:\n \nPERFORMANCE PHOTOS:\n\n \n \n \n \n FRANKENSTEIN 1930 (MAINSTAGE\, Sept. 23 – Oct. 21\, 2023)\nPHOTO 1: Renee Schwarz (MOTHER)\, Amber Solis (DAUGHTER)\n(Michael Hardy Photography)\n \n \n \n \n \n FRANKENSTEIN 1930 (MAINSTAGE\, Sept. 23 – Oct. 21\, 2023)\nPHOTO 2: Sean Wellengard (GORGO)\, David Vaillancourt (VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN)\n(Michael Hardy Photography)\n \n \n \n \n \n FRANKENSTEIN 1930 (MAINSTAGE\, Sept. 23 – Oct. 21\, 2023)\nPHOTO 3: Adriana Catanzarite (ELIZABETH)\, McKayla Spence (BERTA)\, Geraldine D. An ill-equipped and understaffed theatre company mounts a full production of the classic biblical epic made famous by the Charlton Heston film classic\, complete with chariot race\, sea battle\, stage combat\, and actors struggling with professional rivalries and offstage romances. Can this plucky band of thespians retell one of the largest stories ever told? \nCASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:\nNOTE: Looking to cast wonderful character actors with imaginative minds\,  great comic timing\, and high energy physical comedy skills! \nAll ethnicities and gender identities will be considered for all roles. \nDANIEL VEIL   (M\, 20s – 40s) The owner\, producer\, director of the Daniel Veil Theatre Collective (who also happens to be the star of this production).  He is highly confident of his theatrical abilities (not so much in his ability to win the love of Crystal\, his leading lady).  He plays Judah Ben Hur\, Melchior\, and a Nubian dancer. \nCRYSTAL SINGER (F\, 20s) Pretty\, sweet\, and smart leading lady (and object of Daniel’s affections).  She plays Mary\, Tirzah\, Esther\, Ancient Slave\, Nubian Dancer\, Catalinya\, Naboth\, and Mrs. Pilate.  Ability to do a wide variety of characters and accents a necessity. (Must be comfortable with kissing Omar.) \nOMAR LORD (M\, 20s – 30s) Very good looking local weatherman/game show host type making his debut in this production and the object of Crystal’s affections.  He plays Messala\, Jesus\, Caspar\, Archangel Gabriel\, Galley Captain\, Roman Captain\, Galley Slave\, Nubian Dancer and Valentinyo. Ability to do a wide variety of characters and accents a necessity. (Must be comfortable with kissing Crystal.) \nEDGAR T. CHESTERFIELD (M\, 40s – Death) Classically trained Shakespearean actor past his prime.  He plays Balthasar\, Sarah\, Centurion/Slave-Driver\, Quintus Arrius\, and Pontius Pilate. Ability to do a wide variety of characters and accents a necessity. \n1 MALE and 1 FEMALE ENSEMBLE/UNDERSTUDY (20s-40s) These understudies will not only be understudying all the roles\, but will appear in every performance as “backstage crew that are understudies.” These will be very funny additions to the main cast. \nBEGINNING REHEARSAL SCHEDULE:\n\n\nBen-Hur-Beg.-Reh.-Schedule-V.2Download\n\n\nINFORMATION ABOUT THE AUDITION PROCESS:\n\n\nINSTRUCTDownload\n\n\nSIDES:\n\n\nCrystal-SidesDownload\n\n\n\nDaniel-SidesDownload\n\n\n\nOmar-SidesDownload\n\n\n\nEdgar-SidesDownload
