(British accent required.) \nGINNY (F\, to play 25-30) Lovely young woman in love with Greg\, but concealing a past relationship with an older man.  Her apartment reflects an energetic participant in the mod London scene of the 1960s. The character appears briefly in their undergarments on stage (1960s period bra and panties) and will engage in romantic contact with the character of Greg (kissing\, embracing.) (British accent required.) \nPHILIP (M\, to play around 50) Dissatisfied long-time husband of Sheila.  He has had an affair with his former office underling\, Ginny.  A successful businessman and gardening aficionado. He suspects his wife is having an affair and wishes to continue his own with Ginny.  (British accent required.) \nSHEILA: (F\, to play 45-50) Philip’s wife.  She is sometimes a bit befuddled but is a pleasant\, competent housewife and hostess.  She keeps her husband guessing about her fidelity to him but also shows concern for him. (British accent required.)

In a large city a terrible water shortage\, caused by a 20-year drought\, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities\, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. Amid the people\, a hero decides that he’s had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom! This irreverently humorous “comedic romp” reinvigorates the very notion of what a musical could be\, with wickedly modern wit and sustained unbridled laughter! \nCASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:\nNOTE: Actively seeking all ethnicities for all roles  \nBOBBY STRONG (M\, 20-30\, A2-C5) The dashing\, rebellious everyman who works for Miss Pennywise at the poorest\, filthiest town urinal. She serves as a quasi-narrator who often questions Lockstock and the play’s logic. \nPENELOPE PENNYWISE (F\, 35+\, A3-C6) The tough\, jaded warden of the poorest\, filthiest town urinal. Did the world’s greatest sleuth fake his own death? Who’s the real detective and who are the imposters? \nCASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:\nNOTE:  All Roles will require a British Accent. \nWATSON (M\, 40s-50s) Any ethnicity. Polite\, reserved\, detail oriented\, everything you’d expect from Sherlock Holmes’ sidekick. However\, he is also seemingly a bit at the end of his rope\, having suffered many personal losses as of late. He presents himself as Watson in an unfamiliar role\, that of the sidekick on his own. He displays a surprising fortitude to make a go of it without Sherlock and is several steps ahead of the situation at all times. (Role Requires a British Accent) \nDR. EVANS (M\, 40s-50s)  Any ethnicity. Silky and officious\, he is the man in charge of an Asylum on an isolated island. No nonsense and intense\, but with an English gentleman’s demeanor. His assertive charm is mysterious and commanding (Role Requires a British Accent) \nORDERLY/MORIARTY/INSPECTOR  (M\, 40s-50s) Any ethnicity. One of Dr. Evans’s assistants. Dark\, mysterious\, and very observant. Says little but sees much. He wears an asylum employee uniform./ Sherlock’s nemesis and suspect at the incident at Reichenbach Falls. He is an older man with a dark and quizzical personality.  / Once a comrade of Sherlock’s\, he is the one who inspects the incident at the masque ball. Has very prominent black muttonchops. (Role Requires a British Accent) \nMATRON/THE WOMAN (F\, 35-50) Any ethnicity.  Dr. Evans’s other assistant. She wears her own version of the employee uniform\, with her hair in a bun. She carries an almost chilly\, robotic demeanor. / A beautiful and mysterious woman at the masque ball\, helps Client steal a document from Fonseca. (Role Requires a British Accent) \nHOLMES 1/THE CLIENT (M\, 40s-50s) The first of the three Holmes to arrive at the asylum and to be interviewed\, Patient 1 presents the demeanor we expect of Holmes; he is brusque and rather forward with Watson. He wears a jacket\, vest and slacks and looks almost identical to the Holmes we all know. / A sinister man who approaches The Woman with a proposition to steal a document from Signor Fonseca. (Role Requires a British Accent) \nHOLMES 2 (M\, 40s-50s) The second Holmes is disheveled\, restless and exhibits the skeptical nature of Sherlock Holmes. He wears a straitjacket and has long hair. (Role Requires a British Accent) \nHOLMES 3/SIGNOR FONSECA (M\, 40s-50s) The third Holmes also looks similar to the Holmes Watson remembers\, but his head is shaved. He does not speak\, nor can he appear to hear. His gaze is always forward\, as he is in a catatonic state. / A jealous Italian man with a thick accent and a curly black mustache. He is a performer at the masque ball. (Role may require actor to shave their head. Requires a British Accent)

McDonagh’s characters will entertain you as they balance on his famous tightrope of cruelty\, kindness\, humor\, and vulnerability. \nCAST:\n\nMary Price Moore (KATE)\nCarmen Tunis (EILEEN)\nKarl Schott (JOHNNYPATEENMIKE)\nDylan La Rocque (BILLY)\nRonan Walsh (BARTLEY)\nMakena Margolin (HELEN)\nPatrick Peterson (BABBYBOBBY)\nFloyd Harden (DOCTOR McSHARRY)\nKip Hogan (MAMMY)\n\n  \nSHOW TRAILER:\n \nPREVIEW CLIP:\n \nPERFORMANCE PHOTOS:\n\n \n \n \n \n THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN (STUDIO\, July 23 – Aug. 20\, 2022)\nPHOTO 1: Carmen Tunis (EILEEN)\, Mary Price Moore (KATE)\n(Michael Hardy Photography)\n \n \n \n \n \n THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN (STUDIO\, July 23 – Aug. 20\, 2022)\nPHOTO 2: Carmen Tunis (EILEEN)\, Mary Price Moore (KATE)\, Dylan La Rocque (BILLY)\n(Michael Hardy Photography)\n \n \n \n \n \n THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN (STUDIO\, July 23 – Aug. 20\, 2022)\nPHOTO 3: Carmen Tunis (EILEEN)\, Ronan Walsh (BARTLEY)\n(Michael Hardy Photography)\n \n \n \n \n \n THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN (STUDIO\, July 23 – Aug. 20\, 2022)\nPHOTO 4: Patrick Peterson (BABBYBOBBY)\n(Michael Hardy Photography)\n \n \n \n \n \n THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN (STUDIO\, July 23 – Aug. 20\, 2022)\nPHOTO 5: Patrick Peterson (BABBYBOBBY)\, Karl Schott (JOHNNYPATEENMIKE)\n(Michael Hardy Photography)\n \n \n \n \n \n THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN (STUDIO\, July 23 – Aug. 20\, 2022)\nPHOTO 6: Karl Schott (JOHNNYPATEENMIKE)\, Kip Hogan (MAMMY)\, Floyd Harden (DOCTOR McSHARRY)\n(Michael Hardy Photography)\n \n \n \n \n \n THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN (STUDIO\, July 23 – Aug. 20\, 2022)\nPHOTO 7: Karl Schott (JOHNNYPATEENMIKE)\, Kip Hogan (MAMMY)\, Floyd Harden (DOCTOR McSHARRY)\n(Michael Hardy Photography)\n \n \n \n \n \n THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN (STUDIO\, July 23 – Aug. 20\, 2022)\nPHOTO 8: Karl Schott (JOHNNYPATEENMIKE)\, Kip Hogan (MAMMY)\n(Michael Hardy Photography)\n \n \n \n \n \n THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN (STUDIO\, July 23 – Aug. 20\, 2022)\nPHOTO 9: Makena Margolin (HELEN)\, Ronan Walsh (BARTLEY)\n(Michael Hardy Photography)\n \n \n \n \n \n THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN (STUDIO\, July 23 – Aug. 20\, 2022)\nPHOTO 10: Dylan La Rocque (BILLY)\n(Michael Hardy Photography)\n \n \n \n \n \n THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN (STUDIO\, July 23 – Aug. 20\, 2022)\nPHOTO 11: Ronan Walsh (BARTLEY)\, Carmen Tunis (EILEEN)\, Mary Price Moore (KATE)\, Dylan La Rocque (BILLY)\n(Michael Hardy Photography)\n \n \n \n \n \n THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN (STUDIO\, July 23 – Aug. 20\, 2022)\nPHOTO 12: Karl Schott (JOHNNYPATEENMIKE)\n(Michael Hardy Photography)\n \n \n \n \n \n THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN (STUDIO\, July 23 – Aug. 20\, 2022)\nPHOTO 13: Dylan La Rocque (BILLY)\, Makena Margolin (HELEN)\n(Michael Hardy Photography)\n \n \n \n \n \n THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN (STUDIO\, July 23 – Aug. 20\, 2022)\nPHOTO 14: Patrick Peterson (BABBYBOBBY)\, Ronan Walsh (BARTLEY)\, Makena Margolin (HELEN)\, Carmen Tunis (EILEEN)\, Dylan La Rocque (BILLY)\, Mary Price Moore (KATE)\, Karl Schott (JOHNNYPATEENMIKE)\, Kip Hogan (MAMMY)\, Floyd Harden (DOCTOR McSHARRY)\n(Michael Hardy Photography)\n \n \n\n \nA BIG THANK YOU TO THE PORT OF LONG BEACH FOR SPONSORING OUR OPENING NIGHT GALA!

Reading the script prior to auditions will be helpful.   \nBring your Irish dialect if you have one.  \nAll ethnicities encouraged to audition. \nPlease bring your vaccination card as written proof of full vaccination to the auditions. Masks will be required at the auditions. \nSHORT SYNOPSIS:  \nSet on a remote island off the west coast of Ireland in 1934\, THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN is a strange comic tale in the great tradition of Irish storytelling. Word arrives on Inishmaan that the Hollywood director Robert Flaherty is coming to the neighboring island of Inishmore to film Man of Aran and is seeking locals to be in the movie. Young Billy Claven\, who is known to the townspeople as Cripple Billy\, sees this as a chance to escape the tedium\, poverty\, and gossip of Inishmaan. A dark comedy full of colorful characters\, humor and poignancy. \nCASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:\nNOTE: All roles require a mild Irish dialect.   \nAll ethnicities are encouraged to audition for any role. \nBILLY CLAVEN (M\, 18 – 25 to play 17/18) A boy with physical deformities that render both his left arm and right leg useless. Over the course of the play\, Billy attempts to achieve something\, anything\, by sailing to Inishmore to audition for a role in a film. He is torn between his obligations to his aunts and his own happiness. Shy and unhappy\, he wants to be seen as more than his physical handicap and his tragic past. \nKATE OSBORNE (F\, 45 – 68 to play mid-60s) One of Billy’s anxious\, adoptive aunts\, Kate is the most worrisome and the most obsessive. She has a habit of talking to stones when she is under stress. \nEILEEN OSBOURNE (F\, 45 – 68 to play mid-60s) Billy’s other adoptive aunt. She is more grounded than her sister\, but is still a worrier when it comes to Billy\, especially when he’s off staring at cows. She is a compulsive candy-eater when she is under stress. \nJOHNNYPATEENMIKE (M\, 45 – 68 to play mid-60s) The town gossip\, he embodies the Irish tradition of storytelling. Bitter and full of his own self-importance\, he brings the only kind of news available or interesting to the people of Inishmaan – and he expects payment in kind. He is not above lurking in the shadows to get the scoop on local gossip. He has a combative relationship with his 90 year old alcoholic mother\, whom he encourages to die on a regular basis.  \nHELEN (F\, 18 – 25 to play 17/18) Fiery\, fierce\, and just plain mean in one moment\, begrudgingly caring in the next\, Helen is a young woman who is not to be messed with. Her self-confidence is part of what makes her so attractive to Billy. She is a brutally comic character who throws eggs at priests\, stomps on geese\, and beheads a cat before the play is through. \nBARTLEY (M\, 18-24 to play 16/17) Helen’s not-too-bright younger brother\, he is a rural teenage boy who obsesses about telescopes and sweets\, asks too many questions\, incurs Helen’s wrath on a regular basis\, and is fascinated by the island’s few unusual qualities. He may represent the boy Billy would have been in a different life. \nBABBYBOBBY BENNET (M\, early 30s) Handsome\, muscular. One of Inishmaan’s resident boatmen\, his wife’s premature death has taken a toll on him. He can be gruff\, but there is a sadness in him. He is the only character that is able to truly sympathize with Billy. \nDOCTOR McSHARRY (M or F\, early 40s) Professional\, yet exasperated\, McSharry is the island doctor who can oftentimes see the extent of the absurdity on the island. McSharry can be cast as either a male or female character. \nMAMMY O’DOUGAL (F\, 55-70s to play early 90s) Johnny’s ancient\, alcoholic\, foul-mouthed mother. Johnny would love nothing more than for Mammy to up and die. Thus\, she is constantly engaged in spiteful banter with him. Strong comedic role for someone who can play older.

Please prepare at least 32 bars of music in the style of the show. \nPlease bring your vaccination card as written proof of full vaccination to the auditions. Masks will be required at the auditions. \nSHORT SYNOPSIS:  \nThis laugh-out-loud musical tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton\, who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. He soon discovers that\, although the residents seem nice\, it’s clear that this is not your ordinary neighborhood. Together\, Princeton and his new-found friends struggle to find jobs\, dates and their ever-elusive purpose in life. Filled with gut-busting humor and a delightfully catchy score\, not to mention puppets\, Avenue Q is a truly unique show that has quickly become a favorite for audiences everywhere. \nCASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:\nPUPPET CHARACTERS: Ages are an indication of the puppet age in the show\, not necessarily the age of the actual puppeteer: \nPRINCETON (early 20’s): A fresh-faced kid just out of college. He is looking for his “purpose” in life and is pursuing a career\, love and life satisfaction. He is a little naïve to the realities of life\, as most people are at that age. Bb2 – G4 Tenor \nKATE MONSTER (mid 20’s): A kindergarten teaching assistant\, a bit older than Princeton. She is kind\, considerate but can have a feisty side. “She’s not weak and she’s definitely not a generic ingénue who gets all swoony and dizzy when it comes to matters of the heart.” F#3 – F5 Soprano (Mezzo) \nNICKY (20’s): A bit of a slacker\, who lives with Rod. They are best friends but have a fiery relationship and can often be found arguing. B2 – B4 Tenor  \nROD (20’s/30’s): A Republican investment banker with a secret…he is struggling with coming to terms with his homosexuality. He comes out over the course of the show. “Rod carries a huge amount of the heart of the show. The actor playing him can have a ball even with the responsibility with keeping him true.” A2 – G4 Tenor  \nTREKKIE MONSTER (20’s/30’s): A reclusive creature obsessed by the Internet. Although he appears abrupt and rude\, a sensitive side is revealed during the show. He has a “Cookie Monster” growl to his voice which would need to be maintained. Bb2 – F#4 Baritone  \nLUCY (20’s/30’s): A vixenish vamp with a dangerous edge. She has starred in “Girls Gone Wild: Parts 2\, 5 and 7”. During the show she seduces Princeton which causes a showdown with Kate. F3 – D5 Alto (Belt)  \nTHE BAD NEWS BEARS (1 x Male\, 1 x Female): Two snuggly\, cute teddy-bear types who convince people to do bad things!! “The bears always work better when they’re cute cute cute and positive. Diabetes inducing sweet.” Male – Baritone. Female – Mezzo  \nMRS. T (Ancient): Kate’s boss. She is cranky and bossy.  \nHUMAN CHARACTERS: \nBRIAN (early 30’s-40’s) A laid-back guy married to Christmas Eve. Unemployed but dreams of becoming a famous ‘smutty’ comedian. “Calling a character “ordinary” is never helpful for any actor – but Brian does live in a relaxed\, easy-come easy-go world.” B2 – F#4 Baritone  \nCHRISTMAS EVE (20’s/30’s/40’s) A therapist who has moved here from Japan. Wears the trousers in her relationship with Brian. “She’s super smart. If you go for the easy stereotype the audience won’t find her funny after about eight minutes.” B3 – F#5 Soprano  \nGARY COLMAN Yes\, that Gary Coleman. He lives on the Avenue\, too! He’s the superintendent. He is a washed up Z-list celebrity who has had a public personal life. The part can be played by a black male/female. D2 – Bb4/D3 – Bb5* Tenor/Alto (Belt)  \nThis is a production of JD Theatricals which is producing the show at the Long Beach Playhouse.

Reading 100+ scripts a year\, the New Works Literary Committee chooses two top plays to receive a stage reading with critical feedback from professional theatre critics and audience talk back. \nAs it is a stage reading\, there will only be 3-4 rehearsals\, and actors will not need to memorize their scripts.  The stage reading of their show will only happen one night\, and there will be a talk back with the audience after the reading. \n  \nSHOW 1:  A LOVELY DAY FOR A BOATING TRIP by Lindsey Brown\nStage Reading March 25\, 2022 \nSHORT SYNOPSIS:  \nA triptych of plays about three lovely days and three not so lovely boating trips as three groups of people each set out in a rowboat with darkly comic results.  In play one\, a couple set out for open water with their marriage on the brink.  Just how far would you trust your spouse?  In play two\, a bride tests the limits friendship as she tries to escape her wedding.  And in play three\, a man\, his girlfriend\, and his grandmother set out for a seemingly cozy picnic on a remote island.  But what’s in all those heavy bags he’s bringing? \nPlays of the triptych: \n(And to kill your spouse) – What breaks first\, the boat or the marriage?  \n(And to escape your own wedding) – Will she\, won’t she\, why is she running?  \n(And to get rid of a body) – Nothing like a boating trip to form bonds and find bodies.  \nCASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:\n(And to kill your spouse):\nGLORIA: (F\, 40’s). Married to Graham. Knows what she loves and how to keep them. Determined\, brutal\, candid.  \nGRAHAM: (M\, 40’s). Married to Gloria. Looks out for number one\, but doesn’t always know how to count. Quick on his feet.  \n(And to escape your own wedding):  \nSADIE: (F\, 30-40’s). The bride. Is starting to become predictable. Determined\, adaptive\, half-measure thinking.  \nGWEN: (F\, 30-40’s). The best friend and Maid of Honor. A human Swiss army knife. Prepared\, compassionate\, intense.  \n(And to get rid of a body):  \nNANA (Violet Ward): (F\, 70+). Has seen her fair share of idiots and that’s probably not over. Intimidating\, opinionated\, shrewd.  \nLENO: (M\, Early to Mid 20’s). Violet’s grandson. Means well but doesn’t always end well. Kind\, waffler\, probably knows what he’s doing.  \nSIERRA: (F\, Early to Mid 20’s). Rolls with the punches and sees the cup half full. Quick-thinker\, devoted\, lovely. (Needs to be able to hold a tune as she sings Amazing Grace.) \n  \nSHOW 2:  REMBRANDT PERFECTED by Braddon Mendelson\nStage Reading March 26\, 2022 \nSHORT SYNOPSIS:  \nOn a Spring day in 1839\, American artist and telegraph inventor Samuel Morse and scenic artist Louis Daguerre — whose daguerreotype ushered in the new world of photography — meet for the first time in Daguerre’s studio in Paris. While demonstrating their inventions to one another\, they notice a silhouetted figure in one of Daguerre’s pictures and devise an outlandish plan to identify the individual\, the first human ever depicted in a photographic image. \nCASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:\nLOUIS-JACQUES-MANDÉ DAGUERRE (M\, 30s-60s.): French scenic artist\, inventor of the Diorama and the daguerreotype. She is the only member of the household with steady employment out in “the real world.” Although well aware of their “quirks\,” she loves and is truly devoted to her family. \nTONY KIRBY (M\, mid 20’s) – Mr. Anthony Kirby\, Jr. is the Vice President of his father’s business\, Kirby & Company\, where Alice is his secretary. “Although he fits all the physical requirements of a boss’s son\, his face has something in the idealist of it. All in all\, a very nice young man.” \nESSIE CARMICHAEL (F\, about 29) – Eldest child of Penny and Paul\, and wife of Ed. “…curious air of the pixie about her.” She makes candies and studies ballet (endlessly and fruitlessly). \nED CARMICHAEL (M\, 30’s) – Husband of Essie Carmichael. Plays the xylophone (actor need not be proficient)\, and creates various flyers and leaflets with his home printing press\, while also helping to sell Essie’s candies. \nPAUL SYCAMORE (M\, 50’s) – Paul is Penny’s husband\, father of Essie and Alice. He spends most of  his time making fireworks in the basement with Mr. De Pinna. He also builds toy models. \nMR. DE PINNA (M\, 40-65) – Mr. De Pinna is a former ice deliveryman. About 8 years ago\, he delivered ice to the house\, and never left. Spends most of his time making fireworks with Paul. \nRHEBA (F\, 30’s) – The “maid\,” Rheba is perhaps not the most competent of domestic workers. But\, she fits in with this family to a tee. \nDONALD (M\, 30’s) – Rheba’s boyfriend. He is “on relief\,” and therefore spends most of his time with Rheba and the family. He enjoys bringing flies for the snakes\, and helping out around the house. \nBORIS KOLENKHOY (M\, 50’s-60’s) – A Russian émigré\, Kolenkhov is Essie’s private ballet instructor. “He is enormous\, hairy\, loud\, and very\, very Russian.” (Requires a Russian accent.) \nMR. ANTHONY KIRBY\, SR. (M\, late 50’s) – The president and founder of “Kirby & Company.” He is the epitome of the extremely wealthy and successful\, self-made businessman. He raises orchids as a hobby. \nMRS. MIRIAM KIRBY (F\, 50’s) – A perfect match for her husband\, Mrs. Kirby is the quintessential\, high society matron. She has an avid interest in Spiritualism. \nWILBUR C. HENDERSON (M\, late 20’s-30’s) – Mr. Henderson is the “tax man\,” and all that that entails. (Will double as a G MAN.) \nGAY WELLINGTON (F\, 20s – 60s) – An “actress” with a distinct fondness for gin. (Will double as OLGA KATRINA.) (Requires a Russian accent.) \nTHE GRAND DUCHESS OLGA KATRINA (F\, 60’s) – A Russian émigré\, Olga is a waitress at Child’s Restaurant\, Times Square. Her cousin was Nicholas II\, Czar of Russia. (Will double as GAY WELLINGTON.) \nG MEN (M\, late 20’s-30’s) – Two Men – Agents of the Department of Justice.
