She lost many children before Juliet and doesn’t know how to show her love for Juliet.\n\n\nNURSE (F\, 30’s – 60’s): Nurse to Juliet. Ackroyd relays the information to the village doctor\, James Sheppard\, revealing that the woman was being blackmailed to keep the murder a secret. Later\, Ackroyd himself is murdered as he sits in his study\, and the Belgian detective Hercule Poirot is called out of retirement to investigate. Poirot engages Sheppard’s help to find the killer\, referring to the doctor as his “Watson”. Every servant and acquaintance in the household at the time of Ackroyd’s murder has something to hide – but who did it? Poirot is short\, has quirky habits and is proud of his carefully groomed mustache. He relies on logic and critical thinking to determine the facts of a crime. He is a master of human nature who keeps his thoughts to himself and only reveals them when he is certain of his theory. (Role requires a Belgian Accent.) \nJOHN PARKER: (M\, 40 – 60) He is a competent servant and a worrier. He blackmailed a former employer and was looking for an opportunity to blackmail Ackroyd as well.  (Role requires an English Accent.) \nGEOFFREY RAYMOND: (M\, 25 – 40)   Ackroyd’s secretary and business manager. Raymond is young\, charming\, debonair and fascinated by every aspect of murder and the investigation. He admits being in debt\, but the money he will receive from Ackroyd’s will takes care of this.  (Role requires an English Accent.) \nINSPECTOR RAGLAN: (M\, Late 50s) The official inspector of Ackroyd’s murder. He is proud of his investigative method\, though it is pedestrian at best and usually wrong. He is something of a bumbler.  (Role requires an English Accent.) \nMAJOR HECTOR BLUNT: (M\, 40 – 50) A big game hunter and friend of Ackroyd. Blunt is a man of few words\, but when he does speak\, he is . . . blunt. He secretly loves Flora but feels that\, as he is considerably older\, she doesn’t see him as a romantic partner. By his own admission\, he is uncomfortable in society and prefers the jungle of Africa.  (Role requires an English Accent.) \nFLORA ACKROYD: (F\, early 20s)   Flora is Roger Ackroyd’s young and beautiful niece. She is resentful she is financially dependent on her uncle and agrees to marry Ralph Payton in order to escape this heavy dependence even though she harbors a secret love for Major Blunt.  (Role requires an English Accent.) \nMRS. ACKROYD: (F\, 40s – 50s) Flora’s mother and Roger Ackroyd’s sister-in-law. Mrs. Ackroyd and Flora came to live at Fernly Park after her husband died\, Shallow and solipsistic\, she has fallen into debt in an attempt to sustain her lifestyle and is dependent upon money from her penurious brother-in-law. She is a difficult woman to be around. (Role requires an English Accent.) \nELIZABETH RUSSELL: (F\, 40s) Ackroyd’s chief housekeeper\, She is somewhere over 40 but comes off as older do to her stern demeanor. Elizbeth is efficient and no-nonsense with a proficiency that renders her intimidating. Respectability is deeply important to her\, and she has a secret that she fears would ruin her reputation if it came out. (Role requires an English Accent.) \nURSULA BOURNE: (F\, mid 20s) A housemaid at Fernly Park. \,Born into gentility\, Ursula was thrown into the workforce when her father died and the family fortune was lost. The women are part of their town’s southern oligarchy.  \nCASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:\nNOTE: All ethnicities and types are encouraged to audition. \nAll characters have a basic\, Southern stage accent. \nTRUVY JONES (F\, 35-55). Owner of the beauty shop. She is feisty\, wisecracking\, and outspoken. Heart of gold\, but has been dealt some hard knocks. She offers hairspray with a lot of teasing. (Ability to style hair a plus.) \nANNELLE DUPUY-DESOTO (F\, 18-25). Beauty shop assistant. She is unsure and timid at the beginning of the play. Throughout the story she goes from awkward and timid to wild to very religious. Awkward. (Ability to do hair a plus.) \nCLAIREE BELCHER (F\, 60-70). Widow of former mayor. Grande dame. Elegant\, sophisticated\, intelligent and very witty with a definite sweet tooth. \nSHELBY EATENTON-LATCHERIE (F\, 19-28). M’Lynn’s daughter. She is strong willed\, pretty and passionate. She loves her mother and the other women but has a stubborn streak. \nM’LYNN EATENTON (F\, 40-60). Shelby’s mother. Socially prominent career woman. Practical\, intelligent\, and loving. She is passionate and stubborn about her daughter.  \nOUISER BOUDREAX (F\, 55-70). Wealthy curmudgeon. Acerbic but loveable. Southern to the core. Reading 100+ scripts a year\, the New Works Literary Committee chooses two top plays to receive a stage reading with critical feedback from professional theatre critics and an audience talk back. \nAbout the Shows:\nTHE ONE GOOD THING OR “ARE YOU PATRICK SWAYZE?” – Brothers Jamie and Tommy share a remote farmhouse on the cliffs of the Irish Sea. One morning Jamie makes an astonishing declaration. He announces that he is dead – and now a ghost. Tommy\, naturally\, is unconvinced\, maintaining that his brother’s delusion is caused by the grief Jamie has suffered since their mother’s death. Through humor and pathos\, the play explores themes of love\, loss\, and redemption\, culminating in the discovery that the eternal exists in their fraternal bond. The One Good Thing… should fuel speculation about what is real and what is imaginary. However\, ultimately\, it should touch the heart. \nWritten by Joe Bravaco \nJUDGEMENT OF THE EYE – Han Van Meegeren\, a struggling Dutch artist\, realizes his skill is forgeries and sell millions of dollars of fake art. When Germany invades\, the SS compel him to sell paintings to Goering\, and he makes millions more. At the end of the war\, he is accused of selling national treasure to the enemy and is to be executed. He claims the paintings are fakes and to prove it he will paint another.
