Later\, Ackroyd himself is murdered as he sits in his study\, and the Belgian detective Hercule Poirot is called out of retirement to investigate. Berniece’s brash\, impulsive\, and fast-talking brother. Coming from Mississippi\, Boy Willie plans to sell the family piano and buy the land where his ancestors once worked as slaves. (Ability to play the piano a plus\, but not necessary to be cast in part.) \nBERNIECE (F\, 30s\, Black/African descent.) Sister of Boy Willie. Strong-willed and emotionally complex. She blames her brother for her husband’s death\, remaining skeptical of his bravado and chiding him for his rebellious ways. (Ability to play the piano a plus\, but not necessary to be cast in part.) \nLYMON (M\, 30s\, Black/African descent.) Boy Willie’s longtime friend. Lymon is more taciturn than his partner\, speaking with a disarming “straightforwardness.” Fleeing the law\, he plans to stay in the North and begin life anew. He is obsessed with women. \nDOAKER (M\, 40s-60s\, Black/African descent.) Berniece and Boy Willie’s uncle. Wise and grounded\, Doaker has spent his life working for the railroad. Like Wining Boy\, he is a member of the family’s oldest living generation.  \nWINING BOY (M\, 40s-60s\, Black/African descent.) A charming\, former musician who drifts in and out of his brother Doaker’s house whenever he finds himself broke. He recounts anecdotes from his travels and\, along with Doaker\, provides a connection to the family’s history. (Ability to play the piano a plus\, but not necessary to be cast in part.) \nAVERY (M\, 30s\, Black/African descent.) Fervently religious\, he is a preacher who is trying to build his congregation. Avery moved north to court Berniece after her husband died. He is honest and ambitious and has found opportunities unavailable to him in the rural South. \nMARETHA (F\, 11\, Black/African descent.) Berniece’s daughter. Curious and lively\, Maretha symbolizes the next generation of the Charles family. \nGRACE (F\, 20s-30s\, Black/African descent.) A vibrant young woman whom both Boy Willie and Lymon try to pick up. \nBEGINNING REHEARSAL SCHEDULE:\n\n\nThe Piano Lesson Beg. Reh. Schedule V.3Download

His story exposes the contradictions of how we perceive and value art\, in a tale so absurd\, and with a character so flawed\, it can only be true. \nCASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:\nHAN VAN MEEGEREN (M\, 40s – 50s) Artist and Forger with a morphia addiction who wants to be remembered for their own art  (Mee-Gur-en) \nJO VAN MEEGEREN (F\, 40s) Han’s wife who may or may not know about Han’s illicit activities. \nTHEO VAN WIJNGAARDEN (M\, 30s – 40s)  Art Dealer of questionable morals. Reading 100+ scripts a year\, the New Works Literary Committee chooses two top plays to receive a stage reading with critical feedback from professional theatre critics and an audience talk back. \nAbout the Shows:\nTHE ONE GOOD THING OR “ARE YOU PATRICK SWAYZE?” – Brothers Jamie and Tommy share a remote farmhouse on the cliffs of the Irish Sea. One morning Jamie makes an astonishing declaration. He announces that he is dead – and now a ghost. Tommy\, naturally\, is unconvinced\, maintaining that his brother’s delusion is caused by the grief Jamie has suffered since their mother’s death. Through humor and pathos\, the play explores themes of love\, loss\, and redemption\, culminating in the discovery that the eternal exists in their fraternal bond. The One Good Thing… should fuel speculation about what is real and what is imaginary. However\, ultimately\, it should touch the heart. \nWritten by Joe Bravaco \nJUDGEMENT OF THE EYE – Han Van Meegeren\, a struggling Dutch artist\, realizes his skill is forgeries and sell millions of dollars of fake art. When Germany invades\, the SS compel him to sell paintings to Goering\, and he makes millions more. At the end of the war\, he is accused of selling national treasure to the enemy and is to be executed. He claims the paintings are fakes and to prove it he will paint another. His story exposes the contradictions of how we perceive and value art\, in a tale so absurd\, and with a character so flawed\, it can only be true. \nWritten by Simon Bowler \nFREE TICKETS TO THE NEW WORKS FESTIVAL 2025 ARE MADE POSSIBLE BY A GENEROUS SPONSORSHIP FROM THE PORT OF LONG BEACH.

DESCRIPTION:HADESTOWN: Teen Edition\nProduced by The Jewel Box Children’s Theater Company in collaboration with the Long Beach Playhouse.\nPlaying in the Long Beach Playhouse’s Studio Theater\nApril 26 – May 24\, 2025\nBook\, Music\, & Lyrics by Anaïs Mitchell\nDirected by Anne Kate Mohler\nMusical Direction by Andy Zacharias\nChoreography by Lea Mano\nWinner of the 2019 Tony Award for Best Musical\, HADESTOWN: Teen Edition is an intriguing and beautiful folk musical that explores the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice with a young cast of actors 13-19.  Following two intertwining love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice\, and that of immortal King Hades and Lady Persephone\, this beautiful and beguiling sung-through show pits industry against nature\, doubt against faith\, and fear against love with music inspired by classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz. SUMMARY:STEEL MAGNOLIAS
DESCRIPTION:STEEL MAGNOLIAS\nPlaying in the Long Beach Playhouse’s Mainstage Theater\nMay 17 – June 14\, 2025\nBy Robert Harling\nDirected by Phyllis B. Gitlin\nSee the beloved play the popular movie is based on – STEEL MAGNOLIAS. Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin\, Louisiana is the place where the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s queen bees: local social leader\, M’Lynn\, whose daughter\, Shelby\, is about to get married; eccentric millionaire\, Miss Clairee\, who has a raging sweet tooth; rich curmudgeon\, Ouiser\, who’s been in a bad mood for forty years; all helped out by Truvy’s eager new assistant\, Annelle. Filled with hilarious repartee\, this lovingly evoked picture of eccentricity in the small-town South will have your heart aching with laughter and heartbreak. \nPURCHASE YOUR TICKETS HERE:\nCHOOSE YOUR DATE:\n\nSaturday\, June 14\, 2025\, 8pm – Closing Night\n\nAGE LIMIT\nAs a courtesy to our patrons\, it is the policy of the theatre not to admit children under the age of 5.
