SUMMARY:HAMLET
DESCRIPTION:HAMLET\nBy William Shakespeare\, adapted by James Rice and Amanda Karr\nPlaying the Long Beach Playhouse’s Mainstage Theater\nApril 6 – May 4\, 2024\nDirected by James Rice\nPeer into the mind of Shakespeare’s most dynamic character\, HAMLET\, in a unique adaptation of the bard’s most compelling masterpiece. As Hamlet experiences the death of his father\, he is visited by his father’s ghost seeking justice for his murder. Hamlet is shaken by this experience as his potential madness is made tangible when other actors start to take on the aspects of his splintering mind.  The story proceeds as Shakespeare told it\, but with a core Hamlet and four others playing his innocence\, wisdom\, justice\, and vengeance. Come see the story you know and appreciate\, but with an exciting twist that illuminates the play anew for those familiar and unfamiliar with this seminal tale. \nBUY TICKETS HERE :\nCHOOSE A DATE:\nTHIS PRODUCTION CLOSED MAY 4\, 2024 \nUnable to make it in person? One of his greatest dark farces\, the play centers around two amateur thieves\, Dennis and Hal. Dennis works as a hearse driver for an undertaker and the pair have robbed the bank next door to the funeral parlor. They decide to hide their ‘loot’ in the coffin of Hal’s recently deceased mother\, stashing her body in a wardrobe in the meantime. However\, before they can remove the coffin\, the dead body is discovered by Fay McMahon\, a predatory nurse who makes a habit out of marrying men who subsequently die in strange circumstances. She has now quickly engaged herself to marry Hal’s father but when she discovers the stash of cash\, she demands a third of the spoils. Dennis and Hal’s tricky situation is worsened further by the arrival of Inspector Truscott\, who strangely disguises himself as a man from the local Water Board. Using the conventions of standard farce\, the trio attempt to keep the body and the money away from the Inspector in an increasingly tangled web of deceit and corruption. \nCASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:\nNOTE: Actively seeking all ethnicities for all roles \nMcLEAVY (Male\, Mid 40s to 60s) a sanctimonious and gullible widower and father.  (British accent required.) \nHAL (Male\, Mid 20s) A larcenous and promiscuous (with both sexes) nihilist.  One of the bank robbers and son of McLeavy.  (British accent required.) \nDENNIS (Male\, Mid 20s) Hal’s childhood friend\, lover\, and partner in bank robbery.  He is a hearse driver and has impregnated five different women.  (British accent required.) \nFAY (Female\, Late 20s – 30s) An attractive but murderous and avaricious nurse to the deceased woman in the casket\, on the prowl for her eighth husband and a cut of the loot.  (British accent required.) \nTRUSCOTT (Male\, 30s or 40s) A sneaky\, violent\, blow-hard police detective\, investigating the bank robbery.  He is part psychopath\, part clown.  (British accent required.) \nMEADOWS (Male\, 20s\, 30s or 40s) A police bobby who carries out the Inspector’s orders for arrest.  (British accent required.) \nBEGINNING REHEARSAL SCHEDULE:\n\n\nLoot-Beg.-Reh.-Schedule-v.2Download

SUMMARY:MEN ON BOATS
DESCRIPTION:MEN ON BOATS\nProduced by JD Theatricals in collaboration with the Long Beach Playhouse.\nPlaying in the Long Beach Playhouse’s Studio Theater\nApril 27 – May 25\, 2024\nBy Jaclyn Backhaus\nDirected by Meredith Miranda\nMEN ON BOATS is the true(ish) history of the 1869 expedition of the Grand Canyon when ten explorers\, in four boats\, lead by a one-armed captain\, set out to chart the course of the Colorado River. In an off the canyon-walls funny comedy\, the stalwartness\, the selfishness\, the cockiness\, and the cluelessness of this crew of insane yet loyal adventurers drips with satire as some of the roles are gender swapped.  This is a rollicking adventure that turns the American myth of man-ifest destiny on end and challenges the notion of who gets to make history with respect to its bold if fallible pioneers. \nPURCHASE YOUR TICKETS HERE:\nCHOOSE YOUR DATE:\nTHIS PRODUCTION CLOSED ON MAY 25\, 2024 \nLBP’s Opening Night Gala for MEN ON BOATS is sponsored by the Port of Long Beach! You will need to bring your own sheet music for your audition song. Please no Sondheim or Jason Robert Brown songs as these are hard to sight-read in an audition setting. All auditioners will need to sing with the accompanist – no a capella or recorded tracks. \nPlease be prepared to dance. \nSides for cold readings will be provided at the auditions/callbacks. \nSHORT SYNOPSIS:  \nWednesday Addams has grown up and fallen in love with a “normal” nice young man.  It’s time to introduce the families and\, Gomez\, Morticia\, Fester and the rest of the classically dark and morbid family must alter their behaviors to keep their beloved daughter happy (and her boyfriend’s family intact). \nCASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:\nAll ethnicities and gender identities will be considered for all roles. \nGOMEZ ADDAMS (M\, 40s-60s) The patriarch of the Addams Family – a loving father\, a passionate husband\, and (possibly) a homicidal maniac. (Vocal Range: Bb2-G4) \nMORTICIA ADDAMS (F\, late 30s-60s) The mother of the brood and object of Gomez’s adoration.  She is a strong matriarch and a beautiful\, but potentially dangerous\, presence. Strong dance skills a plus. (Vocal Range: G3-Bb5) \nUNCLE FESTER (M\, 30s-70s) Gomez’s oddly sexless brother.  He is in love with the moon (literally).  The narrator of the show. Willing to shave head a plus. (Vocal Range: C3-G4) \nGRANDMA (F or M\, Ancient) The Addams grandmother (unsure what side).  Tiny\, yet fierce\, matriarchal figure\, whose witchlike presence creates dire consequences for the families. (Vocal Range: G4-F5) \nWEDNESDAY ADDAMS (F\, 18-early 20s) The main focus of the love story within the production. She is battling her natural dark nature with the discovery of the brightness of being in love. (Vocal Range: A3-E5) \nPUGSLEY ADDAMS (M or F to play Male\, Pre-teen to Teenager) Wednesday’s younger brother.  Fears losing the torturous relationship he has with his sister.  Ideally on the chubby side. (Vocal Range: A3-F5) \nLURCH (M\, 20s – 80s) The Addams incredibly tall\, possibly undead\, mostly silent butler.  Has very few lines beyond grunts and growls\, but does have one solo in the finale. (Vocal Range: Eb2-E4) \nLUCAS BEINEKE (M\, 20s) Wednesday’s love interest.  A good-looking\, wealthy\, seemingly normal young man who is inexplicably attracted to the dark beauty that is Wednesday. (Vocal Range: C3-C5) \nMAL BEINEKE (M\, 40s-60s) Lucas’ stuck-up businessman father.  Must be able to bring the humor to this humorless banker-type and show the marital love buried deep within his complacency. (Vocal Range: C3-A4) \nALICE BEINEKE (F\, 40s-60s) Lucas’ frustrated\, yet loving mother.  She longs to break the bonds of marital boredom and find passion once more. (Vocal Range: Ab3-G#5) \nADDAMS ANCESTORS (4 M\, 4 F) The ensemble for the show.  Must have strong vocal and dance skills. \nBEGINNING REHEARSAL SCHEDULE: \n\n\nThe-Addams-Family-Beg.-Rehearsal-Schedule-V.2Download
