The Workshop Production helps to bring a winning script to the next level. One play from the preceding year’s festival is chosen for a workshop performance in which the playwright, director, and cast all work together to make this the best script possible, therefore continuing the play on it’s journey to publication.
Announcing This Year’s Production
SHE by Marlow Wyatt
Directed by Anna Kate Mohler
SHE, takes place in a small working class African American town where children play outdoors and respect their elders. The story follows the life of SHE Sojorner Freeman, an ambitious and strong willed, thirteen year old African American poet. SHE has a natural talent for writing and hopes to use this talent to take her out of her small town existence.

The annual festival nurtures emerging and established playwrights to develop new scripts. Reading 100+ scripts a year, the New Works Literary Committee chooses three top plays to receive a staged reading with critical feedback from professional theatre critics and audience talk back.

Pie In The Sky by Lawrence Thelen
Directed by Mitchell Nunn
An endearing comedy about an aging mother and daughter who live together in Abilene, Texas. It’s Kathy’s birthday and Margaret, Kathy’s 85 year old mother decides to bake her a pie. Kathy joins her mother in the pie making which quickly becomes a series of heart to heart, endearing and necessary conversations. It becomes clear that Kathy’s mother is trying to help her get her life in order before she departs this world.

Adam And Eve…And Adam And Steve by Jason Gordon
Directed by Gigi Fusco Meese
God and his research and development team are conducting an experiment. Adam, Gay Adam and Steve wake up in the Garden of Eden and have to figure out who they are and what they want. Gay Adam and Steve are more than content with each other’s company meanwhile Adam opts for the removal of his rib in order to get his mate Eve. Eventually Eve, Adam, Gay Adam and Steve all end up eating from the Tree of Knowledge and God banishes then from the garden.

Saving Hartopia
Written by Adanna Kenlow and Homeland’s Junior Drama Club
Hartopia, like any other quaint superhero town, sees one day seamlessly blend into the next. Except for today. The children of the town have awakened to find that all of their parents have gone missing! Desperate for answers, the they must join forces with an ominous figure and cultivate the powers within themselves to save the town.
