PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION ABOUT THE COLLABORATIVE CAREFULLY
The Studio Collaborative is a curated season produced by local outside theatre companies and producing organizations in our Studio Theater. The Studio is an upstairs, 98 seat proscenium theater space. The Studio Collaborative Season runs between January and March of each year when the Studio is otherwise dark. Each chosen Company/Artist will be given a week of tech in the space and use of our technical equipment (sound, lights) to produce their own show. You will have to provide your own rehearsal space outside of that tech week. The Long Beach Playhouse does not produce the show; all needs i.e. technical, construction, support staff, marketing etc., will be the sole responsibility of you and your Producing Company. There is a guarantee of $150 per performance to either be paid up front or from your gross ticket sales. This guarantee is non-negotiable as it covers Playhouse Front of House Staff and utility costs. The Playhouse and the visiting Company/Artist will split the ticket sales: 60% for you, 40% for us. Shows that are chosen for the Studio Collaborative Season, and then agree to be a part of it, will pay a penalty of their entire guarantee for their intended run if they drop out after a specific date in the process. Please note that the Studio theatre was built in the 1960s and is on the second floor. Due to the age of our building, there is no elevator and the theater is only accessible by stairs.
The Collaborative will be booked on a curated basis. All submissions will be considered by the Artistic Director and given an equal chance at a slot in the season. Producing your own show is not easy. Please be absolutely honest about your plans and expectations as the Artistic Director will be considering your inclusion in the Collaborative from the information you provide. Previous experience fully producing your own shows is a plus. Only local (Southern Californian) organizations will be considered.
