GUYS AND DOLLS

Synopsis

Set in Damon Runyon’s mythical New York City, Guys And Dolls is an oddball romantic comedy. Gambler Nathan Detroit tries to find the cash to set up the biggest craps game in town while the authorities breathe down his neck; meanwhile, his girlfriend, nightclub performer Adelaide, laments that they’ve been engaged for 14 years. Nathan turns to fellow gambler Sky Masterson for the dough, but Sky ends up chasing the straight-laced missionary Sarah Brown. Guys And Dolls takes us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, Cuba, and even into the sewers of New York City, but eventually everyone ends up right where they belong.

Synopsis

This sensational drama starred James Earl Jones as Troy Maxson, a former star of the Negro baseball leagues who now works as a garbage man in 1957 Pittsburgh. Excluded as a black man from the major leagues during his prime, Troy’s bitterness takes its toll on his relationships with his wife and his son, who now wants his own chance to play ball. Revived in 2010 starring Denzel Washington in the lead role.

TREASURE ISLAND

Synopsis

This is the first adaptation of Treasure Island with great parts both male and female performers. Inspired by real-life female adventurers, Phil Willmott has changed the gender of several of the central characters without compromising the spirit of Stevenson’s classic novel. First produced to great acclaim as part of London’s Free Theatre Festival on the South Bank in 2005, this swashbuckling stage adaptation brings out all the comedy and adventure of this ever-popular story.

Synopsis

At a large, tastefully appointed Sneden’s Landing townhouse, the Deputy Mayor of New York has just shot himself. Though only a flesh wound, four couples are about to experience a severe attack of Farce. Gathering for their tenth wedding anniversary, the host lies bleeding in the other room and his wife is nowhere in sight. His lawyer, Ken and wife Chris must get “the story” straight before the other guests arrive. As the confusions and mis-communications mount, the evening spins off into classic farcical hilarity.

A MURDER IS ANNOUNCED

Synopsis

An announcement in the local paper states the time and place when a murder is to occur in Miss Blacklock’s Victorian house. The victim is not one of the house’s several occupants, but an unexpected and unknown visitor. What follows is a classic Christie puzzle of mixed motives, concealed identities, a second death, a determined Inspector grimly following the twists and turns, and Miss Marple on hand to provide the final solution at some risk to herself in a dramatic confrontation just before the final curtain.

Can they convince him to change before it’s too late? Come spend time with the characters you’ve come to love – Bob Cratchit, Tiny Tim, and of course the irascible miser himself.  This production will be the Christmas party needed to set you and your loved ones on the path to holiday cheer.

Synopsis

Bernard is planning a romantic weekend with his mistress in his charming converted French farmhouse, whilst his wife, Jacqueline, is away. He has arranged for a cordon bleu cook to prepare gourmet delights, and has invited his best friend, Robert, along to provide the alibi. What could possibly go wrong? Everything! Mistaken identities, secret relationships, betrayals and wardrobe malfunctions create an evening of hilarious confusion as Bernard and Robert improvise at breakneck speed to save their friendship, Bernard’s marriage, just a touch of their planned gourmet dinner, and a shred of their dignity in this hilarious and innocently bawdy bedroom farce.

Synopsis

Perhaps the most famous and popular of the Sherlock Holmes mysteries, this gripping tale deals with the curse of the Baskerville family—and the fiendish killer-hound which stalks its members. As the action begins Sir Charles Baskerville has died under mysterious circumstances, and his nephew and heir, the young Sir Henry, has been threatened even before his arrival at Baskerville Hall. Enlisting the aid of Sherlock Holmes he sets out for his ancestral home on the Devon moor in the company of Dr. Watson, Holmes’ trusted colleague, a journey which brings him to danger, mystery and a series of events which build steadily in menace and suspense. Hard pressed to protect his charge, and to fathom the strange mishaps which beset him, Dr. Watson is much relieved when Holmes himself appears—to trap the diabolical killer who stalks Sir Henry and to unravel the fascinating mystery which accounts for his evil actions.
