SHORT SYNOPSIS:

Alan Ayckbourn’s first big hit, Relatively Speaking is a cleverly crafted comedy of mistaken identity.  Young Londoners Greg and Ginny find each other most compatible.  But, Ginny tells Greg she isn’t ready for him to meet her parents as she prepares to visit them in the countryside on Sunday morning.  By accident Greg discovers the address where Ginny is going and decides to surprise her and his future in-laws by meeting them himself.  The address, however, is not the residence of Ginny’s parents, but the country home of Ginny’s former boss and his wife.  Hilarious misunderstandings ensue as Greg meets the “parents,” who have a few surprises of their own.

CASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:

GREG (M, to play 30-35) Handsome fellow in love with Ginny.  A bit naïve — perhaps this is his first time taking a relationship seriously.  Still searching for a career.  The character appears in their undergarments on stage (boxer shorts) and will engage in romantic contact with the character of Ginny (kissing, embracing.) (British accent required.)

GINNY (F, to play 25-30) Lovely young woman in love with Greg, but concealing a past relationship with an older man.  Her apartment reflects an energetic participant in the mod London scene of the 1960s. The character appears briefly in their undergarments on stage (1960s period bra and panties) and will engage in romantic contact with the character of Greg (kissing, embracing.) (British accent required.)

PHILIP (M, to play around 50) Dissatisfied long-time husband of Sheila.  He has had an affair with his former office underling, Ginny.  A successful businessman and gardening aficionado. He suspects his wife is having an affair and wishes to continue his own with Ginny.  (British accent required.)

SHEILA: (F, to play 45-50) Philip’s wife.  She is sometimes a bit befuddled but is a pleasant, competent housewife and hostess.  She keeps her husband guessing about her fidelity to him but also shows concern for him. (British accent required.)
